Swim
Comments: Overall a great swim. Used 2 latex caps to keep me warm and I think that was a good choice. Really didn't feel cold at all and got into a rhythm fairly early and just kept motoring. I would love to be a little faster, but I'm still satisfied with my swim performance compared to last year. I was out of the water in ~28 minutes which puts me at ~1:42/100 yard pace, and I can't complain about that at all. Felt like I was fighting the suit in the shoulders just a little bit, but still got into a rhythm and felt good. I removed the top half of the wetsuit just out of the water. The run up the steps was NOT fun. The concrete was rough on the feet and I was tired, but it was a nice break from swimming before the bike. What would you do differently?: I needed to sight a little bit more to keep myself on track. I felt like I was wandering all over the place on the swim. Transition 1
Comments: I thought I struggled with removing the wetsuit, but I still was 19th in T1, so it must not have been too bad. What would you do differently?: I really can't complain about a 1:12 T1 when it includes the removal of a wetsuit, but I'm sure I could have shaved another 10 seconds off with a little more practice. Other than that, it was fairly quick and smooth. Bike
Comments: Excellent bike leg. I may have pushed just a LITTLE too hard in the first few miles, but I really felt great. Really felt good on the bike and was happy with my pace. I felt a little inconsistent with my speed, but still turned out a great time. I passed Derek about 6 miles in to the bike. What would you do differently?: Can't think of anything I'd change. Transition 2
Comments: Had an excellent T2. When I left T1, all the bikes from my rack were gone... when I got back for T2, I was first to re-rack, so that was a great feeling. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: VERY challenging run. Started off with a good pace for first 2 miles, but slowed a little after that. Felt some ever so slight cramping, so I didn't push too hard. Tried to get as much water and Gatorade as I could stand. I wish my pace had been a little better, but with the 4th fastest run in the field, I really can't complain too much. What would you do differently?: Taking in a little more Gatorade on the bike might have helped out, and I really should have tried to stride out and push the few flat sections a little harder. Post race
Warm down: After drinking water and eating a pancake and banana, we headed down to sit in the lake for a few minutes and "ice" down our legs. What limited your ability to perform faster: Had some MINOR cramping feelings during the race, but did quite well other than that. Event comments: I'd say the race is run very well, but un-eventful. I still give it a good rating though, because I really like the course and love the challenge. Last updated: 2011-04-06 12:00 AM
