Swim
Comments: Felt this swim was the best OWS as far as sighting/navigation went. Felt I lost ALOT of time with the wetsuit strippers. I feel I am pretty versed on taking off my wetsuit. Also feel, it's why by booty cheeks cramped up cuz I sat down kinda hard on the ground. I swam with a guy that was trucking along at the same pace and we were helping each other sight and that seemed to help alot. I didn't get of course once and felt my work around the bouys was definetely better than races in the past...This was definately the most physical swim I have been in. Got my goggles knocked down early and but that was no biggie, I was laughing. I had always thought when that happened I would freak. I'm definately past those days... What would you do differently?: Take off my own wetsuit!!!!! Transition 1
Comments: My transitions were crap! I need to use my regular training socks. Every time I use my Aevero socks in a race, I swear I'm never gonna use them in a tri again, but I always do. They take forever to get on as my regular training ones slip right on. In general, I was just not moving as fast as I would have liked. What would you do differently?: Use my regular training socks! Bike
Comments: Stopped about 1 mile in to stretch my booty cheeks out! They were SOOO tight. I lost a few minutes there. My plan going in was to keep my bike under 3 hrs. I felt if I could do that, I could finish under 6 hrs. Wade caught up with me a couple miles in and we rode the whole bike together for the most part. Taking turns passing each other. Sure made for an enjoyable race! Some girl ran into me and laid her bike down at one of the aid stations but she was ok, thank goodness. I was surprised how well I felt towards the end of the ride. I was definately ready to get off the Fuji but it wads nothing like what I felt after the bike @ Marquee. I was worried 160 was maybe a gamble but I was feeling strong. I was excited to start the run but was a bit nervous as I could tell the heat was coming on... What would you do differently?: Not much I was happy with my effort on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: My dang sunscreen can was not working right!!!! It was barely coming out and I was stressing cuz I got completely toasted @ Marquee!!!! What would you do differently?: Check my sunscreen before the race...If not for that, my transition would've been fine.... Run
Comments: Got off the bike and was running 160 and just felt like I could start faster even thought the heat was in my head a little, so I went to 165 and thought, "let's see how this goes!" I was checking my pace with the signs the first few miles and it was about 9:35-9:45. I kept putting ice in my jersey and hat as often as I could. Really seemed to be working. around mile 7 or 8 my stomach was on lockdown. I drank a fuelbelt bottle every 2 miles and drank small sips of water at every aid station.Still, I never felt like I was gonna throw up or I was pushing too hard, I felt strong all the way. With about a mile and half left, I was ready to be done!!!! All of a sudden, it was like hey, we ARE almost done!!!!!! Felt the experience of Marquee really helped alot. I learned alot at both of these races. i really enjoyed myself! What would you do differently?: Nothing!! Post race
Warm down: Walked around with the biggest smile and drank some water! Got a good massage and stretched out for awhile... What limited your ability to perform faster: Base, and more base! Event comments: I felt like this was my best race. I really felt my decision making and my effort level was good. I couldn't imagine even saying I wanted to do an IM after Marquee, but now, I can imagine it. I know I'm still not ready for that kind of volume, but I made strides this summer. I felt diet and consistency have been my strong points, thus far, in my journey towards an IM. I really enjoy the 70.3 distance and really enjoy the camradery Wade and share racing with/against each other. Was very pleased with the job Red Rock and all the volunteers did with putting on a great event and am blessed and privelaged to race for FCA, and have such a supportive family!!! Ate some hot cereal with 1/2 a banana and some raisins before we left the house. Feel like my sleep was probably the best sleep I've ever had the night before a race. Had a banana on the way up and drank a Clif and ate a Clif Bar within the last hr. before the start of my wave.
