Swim Bike Run Northwest

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 38m 57s
Overall Rank = 563/678
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 42/49
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:45. Put on swim suit and shorts. Ate a banana, half an english muffin with butter, two 4oz vanilla yogurts and a 9.5 oz iced vanilla latte. Loaded car and headed to transition setup.
Event warmup:

Did some walking around to finish getting things together.
Swim
  • 22m 38s
  • 875 yards
  • 02m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

I am pretty confident the time is incorrect. The swim was started in waves based on swim cap color. My wave was schedules to start at 7:48. It ended up started before I arrived at the starting line. I do not know how far behind my group I was, but my timing chip started timing when my wave started swimming. I am sad about that. But I do not know how much time I actually lost.

Took a puff on my inhaler before the start.
What would you do differently?:

I would say I want to be at the start line really early, but I also think they should not have begun starting waves earlier than when they were supposed to. I will definitely be more aware that happens some times.
Transition 1
  • 04m 8s
Comments:

There was a 150 yard distance between the swim and transition area. Plus I took my time and made sure I did what I needed to do.

Took an inhaler puff.
What would you do differently?:

Had a hard time getting the dirt off my feet to get shoes and socks on. Had a water bottle there just for rinsing them off. Next time I will bring a squirting bottle and do one foot at a time.
Bike
  • 37m 23s
  • 11 miles
  • 17.65 mile/hr
Comments:

Was very unsure how much to push myself. I tried to keep my legs feeling a light burn, but not much more than that. Pedaled continuously trying to keep the cadence fast enough without knowing what my cadence was.
What would you do differently?:

Set my transition supplies up at the back of the bike instead of the front. Have a way to carry GU with me. Bento box or shirt/shorts with pocket.
Transition 2
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

My mind was calm and clear. I felt great. Opened a GU and took a little before heading out on the run.
Run
  • 33m 17s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt really good on the run. Made a point to encourage many people running by me. One lady commented that I had too much energy and I was happy to be feeling so good.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. I would like to be faster, but I wanted to finish well. My pace is what it is and if I try to go faster breathing becomes a real challenge.
Post race
Warm down:

Didn't do a great warm-down immediately. But when I needed to leave my ride wasn't ready so I bike across town to meet friends for breakfast, then I bike home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I wanted to go faster on the bike and run but didn't really understand what a faster pace would cost me.

Event comments:

I want them to start the swim waves on time, or be certain everyone knows things have changed.
