Run
Comments: I slid toward the rear of the crowd pretty quickly. Obviously didn't want to go out too fast, and overall pace was right on where I wanted to end up, maybe a little faster. What would you do differently?: Nothing; pretty decent opening run for me. Transition 1
Comments: Jogging in bike shoes to the mount line was slippery. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I didn't push too hard on this ride so it ended up being really slow for me, which was expected. I don't think the distance was right either, Garmin showed it was more like 10 miles, which means I was really slow. Also means the top dogs might've barely hit 20mph on average, if that. Due to the topographical nature of the course and the road conditions on Maddock Road, I didn't think it would be well suited to the tri-bike so I rode the Ridley instead. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty quick; took a little extra time to take off cap and put sweat band on. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: My training plan called for two four minute hard efforts, with two minutes rest between. I did those on this leg, starting at about 1.75 miles. The first one began just after a along uphill, so I was already pretty blown. Second began on a downhill and then rolled into the last climb before the finish. Was so close to the finish at that point that I didn't rest much, but kept going. What would you do differently?: Nothing. This was a pretty solid effort for me. Had the course been flat I would've definitely broken 30 minutes, maybe even close to 29. Post race
Warm down: Walked around to catch my breath, had a banana, granola bar, drank some lemonade. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hill training, I imagine, would've prepped me better for the run course. Bike course too, although I never really felt like I was struggling on the bike, I just wasn't going very fast. Didn't want to hammer too hard given the hills, and then blow out on the run. Event comments: Small race, small crowd, but a very competitive and experienced field, it seemed like. Good location for a du, since it was all contained within the park, except for bike course; that would've been great if the Jacob's Creek Bridge would've been open. DQ did a solid job, as always. Best part was being able to be home in 10-15 minutes afterwards. Was shocked later in the day to see I finished second among Clydes..would've been cool to stand on podium and get recognized (even though there were only five of us), but I never would've even anticipated that as a possibility. Up about 6am (gotta love a race that's only 15 minutes from here), ate some PB on toast, got dressed, and moved out. Ridley's rear tire was flat when I went into the garage to put it on the rack. Pumped it up and it held through the race, but soft again tonight (though not totally flat). Obviously some kind of slow leak. Tube is brand new, replaced after the last flat, so I would assume it's the tire. Quite frustrating.
Nothing, as usual. Walked around a bit to keep warm as it was pretty chilly. After getting packet I jogged back to the car to get my stuff.
