Pre-race routine:

in n wildwood - bagel w/pb, banana and coffee left with wife and kids and got to site about 6:15. Kids doing the kids event so helped set them up and stayed loose.
Event warmup:

short swim @75 yards
Swim
  • 13m 15s
  • 440 yards
  • 03m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

first 300 went great and was feeling like I was crushing it - turned for the beach I pushed out a big effort - took a look thinking I should be standing and saw that i was still what seemed like 100 yards out. Not sure what was up with the tides but it seemed like the last 100 took me >5 minutes. Swim time was 10:15 and the rest a .25 mile run to t1. Was feelign bummed out but 84th place finish leads me to believe everyone struggled as well.
What would you do differently?:

swim more =- 400 yards isn't enought to get my attention so i did maybe 6 swim workouts leading up to the race.
Transition 1

Comments:

same old story - still don't know where the time goes
What would you do differently?:

practice like it is part of the race
Bike
  • 38m 11s

  • 18.86 mile/hr
Comments:

felt like i tranined better than this but not too far out of range. First hint that the legs were not completing with me on second loop - wanted to slowly ramped up the speed but my legs just didn't repsond - not sure i ever felt that to this degree before - wasn't hurting or gasping for air - i just couldn't get it to crank up.
Transition 2
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

not bad for me
Run
  • 28m 15s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

the worst run in any event for me period. Just did not have any juice in the legs. Knee issues kept my run traning to almost nothing the last couple of weeks and i was considering not running at all but knees felt good the week before. Big disappointment is that I didn't compete very well - at the point(s) when you choose to go harder or softer I went soft.
Post race
Warm down:

grabbed some grubbed and went to find steve and mike who were ready to start the kid event. Althought i was disappointed in my effort having them racing got me back into a good spot real quick. They both did great - seems like the timing was off for the kids (all the 8/9 year olds won???) but steven took a unofficial top 10 for sure.

Event comments:

Love this race - challenging course with great volunteers and a great cause.
