Swim
Comments: This was only my second OWS, so the first have was tough. Every time someone would run into me or I would run into them, I would lose focus and/or breath. I switched to bilateral breathing and then once I rounded the first buoy I had to backstroke a bit. Once I got to the next buoy, I was good to go and finished out the rest at a decent pace. What would you do differently?: I definitely need to train more OWS. I also need to just focus on my pace. I was trying to keep up with other people and ended up trying to swim to fast at the beginning. Transition 1
Comments: It seemed like there was no way I was in the transition area this long. Oh well, I thought I was fast. I did the "condom roll" with my socks and they went on my feet easily. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: I pushed myself pretty hard in the bike. It was a flat course so I thought I could do it. What would you do differently?: Get clipless pedals and shoes, fer real. And then a new bike. I think I might have been the fastest person on the course w/o clipless. Transition 2
Comments: I nailed this one. I don't see how I could have done it any faster. Of course, riding my bike in my running shoes helps! What would you do differently?: I'd have to change strategy once I get clipless. Run
Comments: Once I got going I felt good on the run. There were people out on the course with water hoses spraying the runners. It was AWESOME! It was so hot out there by the time I got to the run and I think this really helped me keep up my pace. What would you do differently?: Wear different socks. The ones I had on were soaked. Post race
Warm down: Staggered to the water bucket after finishing and got a bag of ice and a bottle of water. Then staggered over to the shade and sat down with the ice on my neck. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat. Equipment. And this is my first race so it was a learning experience. Event comments: This was my first race so I have nothing to compare it to. However, I loved it and had a blast. I pushed myself pretty hard and the training paid off. I beat my goal time by 11 minutes! Plus, I set my goal thinking that the run was a 5k instead of a 4 miler! It was a great experience and I can't wait to do my next one. Last updated: 2011-04-25 12:00 AM

Up at 5 and had some fruit that I had chopped up in the freezer to make a smoothie. Unfortunately, the fruit wouldn't blend. It just got stuck in the blender. So I had a Zone bar, a banana and a gatorade. Loaded up and was at the event about 6:10.
After setting up my transition area, I swam for about 5-10 min.
