Swim
Comments: I started right in line with the bouy's and paid for it. When we started it was constant hitting. I couldn't get into a groove becuase I would swim up on people and people would hit me like crazy. The only thing about that is I guess my swimming is improving because it didn't freak me out like it used to. I just kept pressing on searching for clean water. On the back stretch I kept hitting someon with every stroke that was next to me and they kept hitting me as well. After about 5 strokes of this I looked up and realized it was Bryce. I really surged to get in front of him thinking we could work together but no dice. I finally found a pair of feet and just stayed on them. I think I could have passed him but I would have had to put down some effort so I thought at this point reserve the energy for later in the race. What would you do differently?: I would line up further outside and work my way in to not bang with the slower swimmers quite as much. Transition 1
Comments: I need to get quicker here. The tri shoes helped but I just seem to spend too much time catching my breath or something. What would you do differently?: Hurry up! Bike
Comments: Started out on the damn just getting my legs going. After about 2 minutes or so I felt good and just pushed the pace from there. This is a pretty hilly course and I was passing people like crazy on the hills which lets me know my cycling fitness is getting much better. After the turnaround I was all alone. I lost focus for about a mile and finally snapped out of it. I actually mouthed the words "Stay Focused". I got back in my groove and was good from there. Nothing to special after that. Overall pleased with my effort. Gained over 2 mph over the last time I did this race 2 years ago. What would you do differently?: Stay focused and push a little harder Transition 2
Run
Comments: HOT. I left transition with Pat again for the second race and tried to run with him for the first mile. Big mistake. I actually had to walk for about 10 seconds to bring my HR down. I kept pouring water on my head try to cool off but it never worked. Finally I dumped ice down my shorts and I felt good the rest of the race. I could feel my feet hurting from about mile 1 to the end. When I finished I had 5 blisters on my right foot and 2 on my left. I guess it was just being wet becuase I normally don't have that issue. What would you do differently?: Train better. I tend to ride and swim but blow too many of my runs off. Post race
Warm down: Took my shoes off as quickly as I could and tried to get my feet to stop hurting. talked to the team and all my friends doing the race. It was soo cool becuase we there were a lot of first timers and watching them enjoy themselves was cool. Event comments: Great race for the team. The kits looked great and we picked up a lot of hardware and we had several just out of placing ending up 4th. Overall good race and a good prep for RiverCities. Last updated: 2011-04-28 12:00 AM

Got to the race a little late due to not getting home from my son's ballgame until 2 am. I was feeling a little sluggish at first but started waking up after I started seeing people I knew and talking.
I did a couple hundred yards of swimming to get my blood flowing but nothing more. I planned on running a bit but I didn't have the time.
