Pre-race routine:

Ate a small breakfast, packed up the back pack and rode over to Cherry Creek Reservoir. My first multisport race in the new agegroup.
Event warmup:

Warm up was riding to the race site. I then did a bit of running with some pickups.
Run

Comments:

Was in wave D. SO I knew everyone would be in my agegroup so it was easy to know who was ahead the whole race. Started out in 2nd as a guy went out way to hard and I knew it. caught him at mile 1.5. I also knew Robert Gilbert would be flying by soon and he did. He runs sub 18's for a 5k. Then right at transition another guy passed me. I knew him as well Andy Mutter. SO I was now 3rd. I pushed pretty hard on this run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing

Excellent.
Bike
  • 51m 19s
  • 18.6 miles
  • 21.75 mile/hr
Comments:

Got out of T1 before Andy. Had a bit of trouble getting my bike shoes on and 2 guys went by me. I cought and passed both of them on the hill out of T1. Pushed at a pace that I felt I could hold all race and still run well. I usually average closer to 24 MPH on this course but my lack of riding prevented me from really pushing. Felt like I should have been able to catch Robert but he was faster than me today. Put in 2 minutes on the #3 guy (ANdy). No one passed me today.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more. I rode actually pretty well and didn't over do it for my current fitness.
Transition 2
  • 00m 35s
Run
  • 20m 38s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Now this run was not so good. I tried to just keep a hard pace. I caught a few people and was passed by a 20 something at mile 2. Just kept my head down and ran. Saw Andy at a short out and back near the end and thought he might catch me. Thank god there was a downhill finish. I pushed hard and beat him by a minute.. He didn't seem to be that far behind me? Oh well I was happy.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. i raced smart today and stayed within myself.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training..

Event comments:

I was happy with the agegroup podium on very little training and know now that I need to train now! Lucky day for me that faster people in my agegroup didn't show up today.
