Swim
Comments: The swim is shallow but I know where to go to get as much swimming as possible so it is not nearly as bad as some make it out to be. The swim went fine but I apparently wasn't pushing bc. pretty disappointed with my time. Now I know next sprint PUSH! What would you do differently?: PUSH! Transition 1
Comments: Always take a few extra seconds to make sure I don't forget anything. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Bike went pretty well. I have not done a lot of miles yet this year so was happy to keep it above 20mph. This year the wind was out of the east for the first time. In every other year the way out is tough but protected more and more turns so not as much a factor as it was this year because the wind hit on the second half out in farm land. Nothing too strong, just whining a bit. I like being in the first sprint wave but after the studs pass me and the olympic turns off I was alone and bored until the last mile when a couple of guys passed me but I think I got them in t-2 and the run. What would you do differently?: more miles in the saddle Transition 2
Comments: number belt didn't want to go together. What would you do differently?: fasten belt in front and spin it around Run
Comments: In the first 300 yds one guy passed me but much younger so no tears. I didn't put my garmin on so I just went out hard and held on. I could see two guys about 100 yds ahead at about the same pace so I had my carrot. At around 1.75 miles at the marina I made the pass. Being first sprint wave there are not many people on the course so love to be able to catch someone. Feels great to be heading in while lots of folks are going out. Don't mean to come off as a jerk. It just motivates me to keep pushing when others are around unlike Highcliff half in two weeks. When I am in the woods alone the mind can win the fight and I go much slower. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I was hoping to be under 7 min. miles but still 15 sec. or so faster per than the other years. Post race
Warm down: Had some grub and they had Point Back beer that tasted surprisingly great. Event comments: This race has started my tri season the last few years and will continue to do so. As I said, nice, not very challenging course. Last updated: 2011-05-05 12:00 AM

For me this has always been a nice little race to start the season and get an idea where I am at in training. I got a friend to do it this year which always makes it more fun. We stayed at the Aloft hotel which is right on the run so super handy. If the family wasn't along I would have just biked to the race. The hotel has a college feel that was very apparent Friday night as the drunk youngsters were making racket from 1-3. Thankfully Sat night was uneventful.
Got up at 4 and toasted up my bagles to have with pb&j. Headed to the race about 5:30.
Jogged around a bit but that was it for warm-up. Met the folks around me and got transition set up.
