Swim
Comments: Did way better than I thought. Had plenty of chances to "rest" while correcting my course. I probably made a 400m swim into a 450m swim What would you do differently?: Need to learn to navigate better. Transition 1
Comments: Walked into T1 to catch breath. Basically took my time throughout. Had trouble getting clipped in. What would you do differently?: Push T1 a lot harder. Run to bike and focus vs. lollygagging as there is ample time to get HR down putting shoes/helmet on and getting onto bike. Could have easily taken 2 minutes off my time. Bike
Comments: Hilly and windy. Bike traffic toward the end was somewhat of an issue. What would you do differently?: Probably could not have pushed much harder. Felt pretty fatigued going into run. Transition 2
Comments: Again took my time a bit. Even changed socks! This isn't normal is it? Took a Hammer Gel and some water. Nearly left with my helmet on. Did leave with spare innertube in side pocket of my tri shorts. Highlight: Ran out of T1 area with Chris Legh - but couldn't hang. That boy is fast... What would you do differently?: Hammer gel and drink water during end of bike ride as opposed to in transiton. Focus more on getting in and out of transition area. Run
Comments: Worked to maintain 160-170 HR for first 2 miles. Started pushing at end, but due to muscle fatigue never got over 175 bpm. What would you do differently?: I could not have run a better race. I've NEVER run sub 8:00/mi for 3 miles in all my training - adrenaline is a wonderful thing! Post race
Warm down: Immediately drank bottle of powerade and bottle of water. Walked around a lot to cool down. Ate the post-race meal, which I thought was pretty good. Met Natascha Badmann - she's got great spirit! Had to hustle home to take daughter to swim class. What limited your ability to perform faster: TRANSITIONS - Could have knocked 3+ minutes off time and gained about 20 spots in rankings. SLEEP - 3-year-old son came down with bad cough in the middle of the night. So ended up only getting about 5 hours of sleep. Event comments: Great organization. Very helpful and spirited volunteers.
