Swim
Comments: Swim was fine - (I'm a swimmer first). I didn't think it was that cold at all really. My performance would have been better if I learned how to swim in a straight line. What would you do differently?: Do a better job of sighting. Transition 1
Comments: I'm slow in transitions and today was no different - I rarely use a wetsuit (only when I have to) so, I'm not terribly proficiant at wetsuit removal. What would you do differently?: Move faster. Bike
Comments: Hilly course - I don't think I stayed in any one gear for longer thatn two minutes. As you can tell by my plumeting ranking numbers - all I heard for the first half of the bike was "on your left". This is nothing new for me. My "D'Oh!" moment: biking about 3 miles *past* the half IM course turn, continuing on the Oly course until someone saw the "H" on my calf and mentioned that I missed the turn. That was a first. However, I wasn't the only one, there was another racer on the half IM course who missed it as well. Nutrition: perpetuem (2 hour bottle) water. A gu towards the end with my cytomax bottle. What would you do differently?: The bike is always my weakest link and today was no different so... yes, I should bike train more... and pay better attention to the course. Transition 2
Comments: Meh, T-2 is T-2 - glad to get off the bike (as always in a half). Ate a gu and downed it with some cytomax. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I'm really proud of how I ran this course. It also helps to have ideal weather. I ran the *entire* course eccept some of the aid stations. The hill around mile 4 - the steep one in the woods that goes straigh up for about 100 yards? I ran it. The hills in the pretty neighborhood in the middle of the course? I ran 'em. I didn't train on hills for months to walk any hills. I ran those hills for myself. Luckily, my nutrition worked out and I didn't have any stomach issues. My legs were a bit tight but I was able to find my pace and just go. My fastest run in a half IM yet - and it wasn't an easy course, so I'm really happy with that. Finished the last 2 miles with another female racer, we pushed each other to the finish and ran through the shoot together. What would you do differently?: Nothing. After doing this sport for ten years, I've resigned myself to being a swimmer who loves to run and likes to bike. I'm actually at peace with that now. Post race
Warm down: Got my medal, one of those foil sheets and some food and water. Sat down, ate a bit, walked back to transition, gathered my stuff and headed to the car. What limited your ability to perform faster: ummm.... the fact that I don't bike enough? Event comments: Great race - very organized with all of the bells and whistles. The *only* thing is that they could have been a bit more clear about where the half IM and the Oly courses divide on the bike course. Last updated: 2011-05-17 12:00 AM

Drove down on Saturday by myself. Woke up at 5. Had breakfast smoothie, coffee and filled my fluid bottles.
Set up transition area, wait in line for port-a-potty.
