Swim
Comments: Felt pretty good on the swim. This was my first wetsuit race, so it definitely took some getting used to. Glad I swam the course friday night to get used to swimming in the wetsuit. What would you do differently?: More open water practice in the wetsuit, but the Chicago weather isn't very helpful with that. Transition 1
What would you do differently?: Practice getting in and out of the wetsuit more. Bike
Comments: Bike was going great until about six miles in my chain not only fell off, it got wedged between the rear brake and crankset. Couldn't get it out for what seemed like forever. Finally a nice guy who happened to be watching from his house came over with an allen wrench set and I disassembled the crankset to free up the chain. Overall I lost 14 minutes due to the mishap. What would you do differently?: Obviously don't try to shift so aggressively coming over the ride of one of those hills. Transition 2
Comments: Went pretty well, but had to take off one shoe and slide back on because the tongue got wedged in the show. Other than that, it went pretty quick. What would you do differently?: Get that left shoe on right the first time. Run
Comments: The first hill was tough, but after my break on the bike, I felt really good for the run. What would you do differently?: Not much to do differently, except maybe do a bit more hill training. Post race
Warm down: Beer me! What limited your ability to perform faster: The bike fiasco really limited my time. Event comments: Had a blast at the race. Was cool to see my wife and little guy right on the corner so they got to see me coming in and out of T2 as well as coming into the finish. I would really recommend the race, but for logistics, I would strongly suggest staying on Eagle Ridge property as getting around the day of the race even after finishing can be a daunting task. Not a ton of sleep- my six month old decided he was too excited for the race to sleep, so I was glad I did all the transition prep friday night. Had a powerbar and a gatorade once I made it to the lake.
Decent stretching routine, then took the bike up the first hill to make sure I was geared properly. Got a quick 100 yards or so in the water to get used to the temp.
