Swim
Comments: This was my first OWS ever, and I hated swimming a year ago. I didn't know what to expect out there. As soon as I got into the water I freaked out and had an panic attack and could not pull it together the rest of the day. I kept swimming to rest points and catching my breath trying to get it together which I never did. Rounding the second turn I totaly lost my direction and ended up swimming in a circle. My goggles were also giving me trouble the entire swim and filling with water. They never had this issue prior to the event. I finally had to take them off so I could see where I was going until got to a point I could rest and adjust them. My goal was to just get out of the water. What would you do differently?: Practice OWS a lot more. Don't Freak out in the water and swim in a straight line Transition 1
Comments: The transition area was a short distance from the water. Since I was spent getting out of the water I just trotted to the transiton area which took a lot of time. Once in there I ran to my bike. Had little trouble putting on my tri top but not a big deal. Everything else was smooth. What would you do differently?: Run from the water to transition. Bike
Comments: Bike was very good. I felt comfortable on the bike and got back my comfort I lost in the swim. Ate some gel and drank while on the go. I was disappointed to see the course was short, but I am still very happy with my preformance in the bike leg. What would you do differently?: Drink more and take in more calories. Transition 2
Comments: Good time in T2, I am happy with this time. What would you do differently?: Take in some food and a little more drink. Run
Comments: Started to cramp up due to not drinking enough in Transitions and Bike. Run was okay. Should have had some electrolite replacements to help with the cramps. But I was able to sprint the to the finish. What would you do differently?: Work on more bricks this winter to get use to the transition from bike to run and also bring some electrolite capsules and gels for the run. Post race
Warm down: Walked around the finish area. I felt pretty good at the end, just happy to have finished my first Tri What limited your ability to perform faster: Not doing any OWS prior to even and freaking out in the water. Also, not drinking and eating enough during the bike and run. Event comments: This was my first Tri ever. I am dissapointed in my swim and run but that is my fault for not practicing OWS and more bricks. I am very proud that I pushed throught the swim after panicing as bad as I did. The bike and run were good but I could have done better. I have done the Disney Marathon and this Disney Event doesn't even compare in term of atmosphere. I am glad I did this race becuase I plan on doing the FL 70.3 in may and the swim is in the same place so I know what to expect. I am definitly going to do more OWS to try to get comfortable in Open water and be able to keep my barrings and also do some bricks. Now that my first tri is under my belt, it is time to focus on FL 70.3 for the next 8 months and also look toward doing a lot better in this event next year. Last updated: 2006-04-11 12:00 AM

Woke up and ate breakfast, this was my first Tri so I don't have a routine down yet.
Walked about a half mile from my Hotel to the transition area. Did some sretching on the beach and just tried to stay calm.
