Swim
Comments: I was in one of the last waves to start. Sort of eerie watching all the lightning nearby before embarking on a one mile swim. Good swim for me. Forgot to start my watch, so I stopped for a second to start it. Got kicked after passing through the channel and my goggles filled with water. Stopped to fix this. Felt the rain start a few minutes before finishing. What would you do differently?: Start watch. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition despite rain. I think I lost my chip while taking off my wetsuit. Bike
Comments: I knew my bike fitness was lacking as I had been mainly running for Boston. Decided to ride comfortably and hammer the run. Rain was pelting me in the face, wind was in my face for the first 7-8 miles. More thunder and lightning. Averaged around 19 until I caught the tailwind and it was 25mph+ all the way back in. What would you do differently?: Maybe go a little harder. Transition 2
Comments: Had trouble finding my spot, otherwise good. Run
Comments: I really wanted to break 40 minutes for the 10k. My first 2 miles were solid. I noticed that mile 3 and 4 seemed a little long. I could tell I couldn't break 40, so I was disappointed. Later I was glad to find out the run was long. I got passed by one guy on the run. I drafted off him into the tailwind on the way back in. We worked together for a while until he passed me for good on the turn headed into the parking lot. Post race
Warm down: We had a 2:15 flight to Disney world. I finished around 10:15. I begged the Marshall to let me get my bike early, and he obliged-A big thanks to him. Quickly drove home, hung up my wet stuff-everything-and headed to Disney!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Bike fitness. Event comments: Only rated a 4 due to run course being long.
