Swim
Comments: That was awful. I have ONLY ever swum in flat water. I have raced a few river courses (this one included), but never had waves like today. I kept it just under the redline/panic mode. But obviously most everyone else had just as bad a day - 4th in AG? I hit about the same time as last year (I don't know how - I guess I was in pretty bad swimming shape then?) What would you do differently?: Panic less and "just keep swimming." Transition 1
Comments: Wow, 1st in AG! Age group: 1 Overall: 11 My rack was just inside the transition area, so I had to run with my bike quite a distance. I guess the early break (to pick up the bike) helped me get my HR under control and ready for the run to the mounting line. What would you do differently?: Nothing! Probably one of my best T1's. Bike
Comments: I was only three seconds from 1st last year, and clinched it this year!! Only one rider passed me, and he was from the start wave behind me! I thought my cadence was a little slow heading out, so I had to downshift. I've been riding pretty well in the higher gear during my training rides, but I didn't want to wear myself out for the run. Odd observation: I passed a few guys on tri bikes who were sitting up on their horns instead of down on their bars. There are no hills on this course, and it seemed we were going into the wind as I passed (they were giving up their aero advantage over me with my clip-ons). I improved by about 2:30 over last year. What would you do differently?: Spin a little faster (downshift sooner). Transition 2
Comments: I still need work on T2 - I'm just too cheap to buy speed-laces... Age Group: 6 Overall: 42 What would you do differently?: Tie my shoes faster! Run
Comments: This has been my limiter, but I feel I've made great improvements this year - I took over 2:30 off last year's time! What would you do differently?: Not much. Pace was good and consistent (1,7:31; 2,7:31; 3,7:36; .21,6:22; avg 7:28 - according to Garmin). Post race
Warm down: None - watched/congratulated my friends. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bad river conditions. Event comments: I was a little concerned about the new transition area and amount of area we had to travel over the gravel road, but it turned out really well. I felt I raced pretty well last year and was very pleased to have dropped almost five minutes this year! Last updated: 2011-06-06 12:00 AM

Took my time getting ready in the morning, but a little too leisurely. By the time I got to the site, got body marked, and set up transition, I only had time for one more potty break - no warm up.
Splashed around in the WAVES for a little bit before the pre-race announcements.
