Swim
Comments: I was in the second wave to take off. Getting the pool membership has paid off, I felt very comfortable throughout. No breathing issues, just felt nice and smooth. On paper it shows I was 20 seconds slower than last year, but they moved the timing mat, I was actually 20 seconds faster (there's a bit of a run from the pond to t1). What would you do differently?: Just need to get more volume. Transition 1
Comments: Had plenty of space around me, no crowding issues. What would you do differently?: Nothing, a couple of seconds faster than last year. Bike
Comments: I felt great coming out of T1, and immediately passed 5 or 6 folks. Then I got passed by a guy on a Specialized, so I tried to keep him in sight. This worked out pretty well for the first couple of miles, and we were passing folks pretty regularly. The back part of the course is where the wind tends to get in your face, but it was much less than in years past, so I actually got back around the guy on the Specialized. Just a really comfortable ride, felt good throughout. What would you do differently?: I seem to be at about the same level over the last three years on this course, the only variance being the wind. Transition 2
Comments: Yay, I can put running shoes on quickly. I knoew I was doing pretty well based on the small number of bikes in transition. Run
Comments: Took off, and immediately saw a male and female runner heading off in the wrong direction on the course. I shouted to both of them, he heard me and she didn't, but both eventually got back on course (maybe I shouldn't be so considerate in the future, turns out the guy was 35-39 ;) ). As verified by my Garmin, they fixed the run distance this year, my watch actually read it as a 3.6 mile run. Even with the increased distance, I was cosniderably faster this year, which is kind of surprising given I've gained a little weight back. Pretty lonely out on the course, I didn't pass anyone and was passed by two women. The cooler weather made it less torturous than usual, which was nice! Coming back onto the grounds of the Y I kicked it up a bit to make sure I could slow down and let my daughter run across the line with me (and now she says she's faster than me). What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: I knew the race numbers were down, but was shocked when I saw on the initial results that I was in 16th place overall! Last year I was 58th. Even better, becuase the lead 35-39 won for best time 40 and under, I bumped to 2nd for AG, which was pretty cool, just my 2nd tri medal ever. What limited your ability to perform faster: Meh. Same stuff as always. Event comments: Kind of a shame that they are losing numbers at this race. In the past they've had 300 participants, less than 100 this year. It's really a fun, low-key race that I hope sticks around so I can keep up my tradition of racing it. Last updated: 2011-06-07 12:00 AM
