![]() Swim
Comments: This was a two loop swim which was new to me, with a short run up the beach at the halfway point. Went out a bit too fast and then settled into a good pace. Did an ok job on navigating the first half of the course but the last turn towards the beach was a bit tough. The lake water was nasty and I almost threw up a little bit on the second loop. Yuck! Swim felt ok, was only 20 seconds off my PR which is good. What would you do differently?: Swim more than once in the last month! ![]() Transition 1
Comments: There was a long run to my rack, so other than that this transition went really well. Felt smooth and calm. Decided to race without gloves for this distance and didn't miss them at all on the bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing. ![]() Bike
Comments: Ah the bike. While this was an Oly distance PR for me (no hills!) I felt like crap the whole time. Legs hurt, I was tired and just did not want to be on my bike. These small local races are discouraging because we have a LOT of fast local people, and since I'm an ok swimmer I get passed by a ton of people. Today it was just demoralizing and I was not in a good mood. My spirits lifted a bit on the one hill on the course I chatted with a nice guy during the climb which got me out of my own head. Cruised the rest of the way into transition. What would you do differently?: Bike faster and get an attitude adjustment. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Another good transition here with a longish run. Again, felt controlled and calm. Racked bike, changed shoes and grabbed visor, race belt and Garmin to put on once I was running. Husband even said he was impressed with how fast this was. What would you do differently?: Nothing ![]() Run
Comments: Ah the run. I felt pretty good other than being STARVING the whole time. I didn't have any expectations and let myself walk if I wanted. I stopped to tie my shoe at one point and stopped at mile 2.6 to use the bathroom. Just chugged along and ran/walked the whole course. I knew my vacation had caught up with me and there was no way I could push the pace on the run so I didn't. Goal for the day was to have fun and finish comfortably so I could jump right into IMAZ training. What would you do differently?: Run more while on vacation! ![]() Post race
Warm down: Got my medal, said hi to my hubby and tri club friends, got a burrito (yummy!), banana and strawberries and a beer. Hung out on the grass, enjoyed the sun and watched the awards ceremony. What limited your ability to perform faster: Vacation/no training for a month after Wildflower! Event comments: Awesome race! Very, very well organized, had everything I could have wanted and the burrito and beer after the race were awesome. I would do this race again, it was quite fun. Last updated: 2011-06-07 12:00 AM

I went into this race on no training after a month of vacation/rest before starting IMAZ training so I wasn't expecting much. Was doing it for fun because a bunch of people from my tri club were racing.
Got up at 4am, ate and drove the hour from our house down to San Jose with the hubby who was coming to watch me race. Set-up transition, hung out, normal race morning stuff.
Nothing really, got into my wetsuit and hung out by the water. Race started at 7:00 and my wave was at 7:18.
