Comments: Stroke felt terrible today and I was all over the place. What would you do differently?: Continue to work on my stroke. Transition 1
Comments: I has some serious leg cramps in both legs in T1 for the first time ever. That has never happened before. I popped some endurolytes to see if they would go away and luckily they helped a little. Bike
Comments: Was going to take it easy on the bike and it started that way. Unfortunately after having everyone around me, that went out the window and I just rode my race. My legs hurt for the first six miles then they began to loosen up around mile 10. Overall, my pace was pretty good for an olympic. Transition 2
Comments: I knew I was going to cramp again, so I took some time to pop some more endurolytes. Run
Comments: I tried to keep stride short knowing that if I tried to stretch it out a little, I would run the risk of my legs cramping even worse. Overall, I kept a pretty good pace. I took it just a little slower than normal because I was afraid of the heat. It was hot and sunny and that killed me last year. I didn't want a repeat performance. Legs cramped a little around mile 5 but I wouldn't let myself stop. I just pushed on through and finished strong up the hill. Post race
Warm down: Hung out under the water tent to cool down and waited for John to finish as he started in the wave after me. Turns out he had a 20 minute PR and missed the podium by 1 spot! Great performance by John. We grabbed a little food afterwards and took it easy. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of sleep the night before and working 12-15 hour days for the 4 days prior to the race. Event comments: Everything was great with one exception and I think this a big no - no. Once John and I returned to transition to retrieve our bikes and other stuff, Setup had already taken down the barriers and there were no Setup staff members around. Everyone's bike and equipment were there for anybody to walk up and take. To me, that's unacceptable. I want to try to support Setup with all of their races, but I will not if this continues. Went to bed at midnight then woke up at 4am to make the drive to Ninety Six, SC. Once arriving at the race site, I registered and set up transition. After everything was ready to go, I tried to find John (fattyfatfat). After a quick warm up in the water, I found him. He was the reason why I was even doing the race. After all of the emails and everything on BT, I had to meet this guy. After chatting for awhile, it was time to get started.
