Swim
Comments: My timing chip almost came off during the swim, so I had to carry it in my hand, which messed with my catch on my left pull. I felt like I did ok otherwise. What would you do differently?: I think swimming is where my lowest hanging fruit is for getting faster overall. In the offseason, this will be my focus. I definitely need to swim more. Transition 1
Comments: Had to put my timing chip back on, but otherwise a rather smooth T1. What would you do differently?: Learn to flying mount. I'm going to keep typing it until I actually do it. Bike
Comments: I'm a big fan of this bike leg. There was some headwind out there, which slowed me down some, but everyone had to deal with that. Overall I felt it was a strong ride. What would you do differently?: I think barring getting a tri bike, there isn't much more I can do as far as speed here. Transition 2
Comments: Thank God they decided to move the transition to the grass instead of the gravel parking lot of death. It made for a much smoother T2. What would you do differently?: Nothing much. Felt like this one was pretty solid. Run
Comments: The run is hilly in this race, which makes your pace feel very interval like. I wish I had my Garmin on for this portion of the race to pace better. I pushed hard in my mind, but I feel that I have a barrier mentally that I have to break to go as fast as I can in the run. What would you do differently?: Have my Garmin with me, so that I can pace closer to my racing ability. Post race
Warm down: Did a lot of walking around after the race to let my HR go back down. After that I looked at the results to see that I missed 3rd in my AG by 6 secs! What limited your ability to perform faster: There are lots of situations where I could have picked up 6 seconds, but I'm satisfied with my effort for the race. I beat my time last year by 13 minutes, so hopefully I can keep improving for next year. Event comments: This is a great race! The logistics are kind of crazy being point to point, but if you can get support for it, it is definitely worth a look! Last updated: 2011-06-14 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5AM to head to the race site. Stayed at a hotel that was about 1 mile away from the race site, which was nice. I don't eat much the day of the race.
Spent most of the time trying to figure out why my Garmin wouldn't turn on, until I said "screw it" and biked for about 10 minutes to make sure everything was ok there. I didn't even get in the water before the race, which would end up costing me.
