Swim
Comments: Swim went well. I started too far back in my wave and spent the first 200 yards swimming around people. Took it easy, felt good generally. When I hit the turn around I did about 50-75 yards of dolphin dives because the river was so shallow. What would you do differently?: Start in further up. Transition 1
Comments: The strippers pulled my wetsuit off and I went to run to my rack. Everyone was walking and trying to stay on the carpeting. A girl behind me said "lets go" and took off running off the carpet. I followed and we jogged to our respective racks. I geared up and stuffed everything from transition in my bag and headed out. What would you do differently?: Not wait, run around. Bike
Comments: I got on my bike, up to speed and set into a very comfortable pace. This course was beautiful. All of the up and down made it difficult to get into a groove. Less than 5 miles into the bike my stomach was not feeling great, not horrible, just off. I held back and slowed my pace. Just after 5 miles I threw up, it just happened. I slowed down a little more, rinsed my mouth out with water and tried to collect my thoughts. I drank some water then after some time tried a gel. Nope, not going down. Tried gatorade, nope. Okay ... back to the water. I nursed water until the first aid station then grabbed a banana. I've never had nutrition issue so early in a race. The reality was nothing was staying down. I threw up again around mile 40 and finally felt a little better. I was able to get some banana, a gel and a bit of gatorade down before getting off the bike. I probably got 400 calories down on the bike (way too low). What would you do differently?: Sucked it up and take the DNF Transition 2
Comments: I got to my transition spot and thought about calling it a day. Running shoes and visor on. What would you do differently?: Stop racing Run
Comments: Was not my best run, nutrition caught up with me. I tried to get a shot block, gatorade, water and coke down. The course was challenging and like the bike had a lot of up and down which made it tough to find a groove. The race director might consider placing cones periodically on the course directing people to stay to the right while running. The course is really pretty and regardless of the hills and how crowded things got. What would you do differently?: Not run. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and sipped water/gatorade. I got a plate of food and picked at it. I eventually found a spot in the shade and sat down. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nutrition problems from the start. Event comments: I enjoyed this race. Great volunteers, racers, course and vibe. Pre race events took too long. Required pre-race meeting let out before registration was open. What could have been a 30 to 40 minute process took 2 hours. Last updated: 2011-06-18 12:00 AM

Up at 5. Had some breakfast (homemade banana bread, banana), packed the truck and headed to T1. We arrived just after the Vineman racers started the swim so tranisition was pretty clear. I found a decent rack spot, set up transition then climbed into my wetsuit. I nursed some gatorade while I waited to get in the water.
