Pre-race routine:

Light breakfast consisting of bagel with peanut butter and bannana and one cup of coffee.
Event warmup:

No pre-race warm up. Warmed up the first couple miles of the race.

Comments:

Started to have stomach cramps around mile 6 but kept on. Really had bad calf cramps at mile 12. Just didn't feel as strong today as I have in past races. Really felt like I have neglected my long runs lately and it showed today.
What would you do differently?:

More long distance runs prior to the race. Better preparation next time. Also need to dial in my race nutrition better so I am not dealing with cramps.
Post race
Warm down:

Really felt pretty crappy and spent after the race. Ended up getting gatorade, water and a bannana and sitting down on the street curb to stretch a bit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Definetly conditioning and race nutrition.

Event comments:

Really overall a great event. I would definetly return to Des Moines to do it again next year. Will definetly try to be in better shape for it next year though. Have been doing a lot of swim and bike training in the last 2 months and have fallen off on my long runs, something I plan on fixing soon in preparation for half ironman next summer!

Course: Very nice course. Mostly all flat. Couple of small hills. Started out in downtown Des Moines and ran right up to the capitol building. Then headed up Grand Ave and took a left on Fleur Dr. Then did a lap in waterworks park before doing a lap around a Greys Lake on a nicely paved trail. Finished up back in downton.
