Pre-race routine:

Seafair is the 1st Race I ever did, and this race got me hooked on the sport, but I haven’t done the race since 2007 and I was wondering how I’m fairing.
Pre-race: Woke up at 4:30 am jumped in the car drove around the lake though Renton, and got pulled over by a Renton cop because I took the turn around the Renton airport a little fast. Asked where I was headed, then let me off with a warning-Yea! Got to the transition area about 6:15 set up, and waited and waited (old folks wave was last). Talked with the folks around me. About 7:15 went for a run. Around 7:45 took a nice little swim out to the raft & waited until 8:10!
Event warmup:

See above
Swim
  • 15m 5s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim: waited until the folks started out a little bit then went in. Swam into the mash pit, swam through, made the 1st turn, didn’t look up until the 2nd turn (I was actually surprised where I was)! I had been following feet & bubbles. I made the final turn and there were 6 green caps in front of me, worked to get in front of all but 1. Ran into a bunch of folks from the previous waves on that stretch. Time: 15:05 Fastest Swim time ever for 800 meters!
What would you do differently?:

Pull harder on the last 100 yards.

Comments:

Knew that there were some folks in my age group still in front of me, went out strong, and passed 6 more folks in my age group. No one passed me! Time 34.42 Fastest bike time for 12 Miles
What would you do differently?:

go harder on the bike, I've been above 21.7 miles/hour now.
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

Got back in, decided to put on my socks, then after putting one on my left foot inside out, changed my mind, got the zoots on & took off
What would you do differently?:

Don't play with the socks.
Run
  • 25m 1s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Had fun for once. Saw C. Esposito after a ¼ mile or so, and he was about a ¼ mile in front of me, so pushed it to get to him. Joked & talked with him for a minute or two, then went for it. Hate the hill, but made it through. Time 25:01: Course record, fastest time is still at Kirkland (24:08), but I suspect it was only 3 miles.
What would you do differently?:
