Swim
Comments: Started out fast and fine to first bouy, then all fell apart. Just lost comfort zone with crowded conditions, stopped bilateral breathing, took in water slowed down and veered way left. What would you do differently?: Just deal mentally with people swimming around you and occasional bump. Try to pick one and draft, don't let murky water bother me. Adding to problem midway thru I lost my ankle timing chip (my fault, looking back I think I didn't secure properly) so all my times are guestimates. All times are pretty close though within 30 secs for sure. Transition 1
Comments: After miserable swim focused on getting onto bike quickly and all went well. I wore a trisuit for first time so was immense help not to worry about shirt & number. What would you do differently?: Nothing really, maybe some struggle finding wetsuit zipper while getting out of water, could have gotten into light jog then addressed. But overall was very quick Bike
Comments: Started out nicely with quick turnover in easy gear. A few miles in someone passed me, then a mile later I passed him back on a hill and the race was on. Pattern continued with me passing on hills and him gaining on downhills and to a lesser extent flats. 2 more joined cluster with same pattern. Really helped me push it What would you do differently?: Maybe out a little quicker, drink something less acidic (boo Powerade) and get a NEW BIKE someday Transition 2
Comments: Very quick, got shoes on and off I went. What would you do differently?: Nothing, helps not to drink while stopped Run
Comments: I had trained for this Tri by doing hills immediately in run brick workouts, but unfortunately I had too much water and a bit of an air bubble/almost cramp thru 1st mile. Finally on the downhill it went away and the rest of my run was very good. What would you do differently?: Don't buy Powerade on sale if you prefer Gatorade and/or stick with water. I drank steadily on bike which prevented typical leg cramps biking but led to just a bit too full for run. Post race
Warm down: Jumped into water! Always suprised that so few people do this What limited your ability to perform faster: Awful swim, didn't quite panic but just lost it. Made up for it on other two legs though Event comments: Very well organized and tons of volunteers, maybe started a little late due to National Anthem and long Monk prayers but that was OK. They did a great job directing you around the course. I placed 3rd in my age-group and placing was my biggest goal for 2011 - accomplished at first race of season so very pleased with that.
