Swim
Comments: Bummed out here. I had a very strong form for me. LOTS of bumping, and a lot of people bonked about halfway through. Picked my way through them. But unfortunately got way outside on the back stretch and added a significant amount of distance to the race. At least 100 extra yards if not more. Was not completely wasted when I got of the water. What would you do differently?: Sight better, and be more cognizant of the current pulling me out. Time also includes running up from low tide. Transition 1
Comments: Really slow. Mentally hung up on the cold temp and being wet. Took time to dry off and put wind jacket on, as well as socks and gloves. Also, first tri w/o strippers. Got hung up on timing anklet and watch. Could have been faster, but went in thinking i'd take this slow. What would you do differently?: Run the race, don't worry about cold. Prepare to remove wetsuit w/o strippers Bike
Comments: Forgot to set watch before start to auto Tri, so started off screwy. Figured it out 1 Mile in. Felt pretty strong, was able to get and stay aero for longer. That said, I'm just not fast. Really need to work on my leg strength. What would you do differently?: Don't worry about wind jacket, and maybe don't be so concerned with cold. have watch set up in advance. spend hours per week for years building up quads. Transition 2
Comments: Don't know how this was so quick. just ran in, took off helmet, jacket, and glasses, changed shoes, grabbed water bottle, and ran. Did forget to take watch. What would you do differently?: Other than take the watch, nothing, this was great. Run
Comments: Toes completely numb for first 1.5 miles coming off bike. First time running race without the watch. Just went by feel, and I'm pretty jazzed. Pushed it somewhat the last mile or so. Conditioning is definitely higher than it's been, as I never felt like I was totally straining. Maybe had more in me. What would you do differently?: Push it earlier and just go for it. Take the watch (although I wonder if I would have let off a bit?) Post race
Warm down: Pizza, chicken, and hug from wife. Event comments: Really pretty course. My wife described it as "all business". Nice for its second year, but not much going on. Could have used wetsuit strippers, maybe a transition area on grass, more volunteers out on bike course. Also, disposable timing chips were flimsy (but they've already promised to rectify for 12) I'd do it again for the ocean swim challenge and pretty course but nothing special yet. I think with time, this could get to be a big end of season race. Last updated: 2011-07-10 12:00 AM

Got up early at the hotel, had a protein bar. Only had decaf coffee, brutal at 5:30.
Jogged around a bit, went into the water early to get acclimated to cold.
