Swim
What would you do differently?: Wasn't much else I could do, but with the kids tri the shallow water is what it is. Looking forward to my next race with a "real" swim leg. Transition 1
Comments: Went off pretty much without a hitch. Drank some water really quick, got my socks and shoes on, and put my headband, helmet, and sunglasses on. Of course I could have been much much faster but I didn't want to do something stupid so I took my time. It's not like I was trying to place or anything. Bike
Comments: Well, this was pretty much to be expected. With my heavy, not-meant-for-racing upright bike, I can't really go much faster than this but I'm ok with that. My main goal was to not go too hard and save my legs, and I did that. What would you do differently?: Learn how to drink water on the bike! Haha I was too afraid to reach down and grab my water bottle because I knew I wouldn't be able to get it back in without stopping entirely. So I never actually drank on the bike. I think it's because my position is so upright I have to lean over really far and I get nervous. Transition 2
Comments: Ahh I couldn't figure out how to rack my bike with the two bikes that magically showed up that weren't there before! I wasted so much time trying to figure out how to squeeze mine in without touching the other bikes. I was such a noob in T2. What would you do differently?: Practice which direction to back my bike into other bikes for racking so I don't do that again. Run
Comments: I'm quite excited about this! This is pretty much my standalone 5K time which is awesome. What would you do differently?: Nothing - this is as fast as I could have expected to go, I drank well, and never stopped to walk which was my first goal. Post race
Warm down: Pictures and smiling. Ha. What limited your ability to perform faster: My lackluster swimming ability, ill-suited heavy bike and slow running legs. Event comments: After reading the race reports from last year, I think this year was probably a marked improvement. It was my first race, but I think it felt very well organized and there were plenty of aid stations on the run. Hurray! Last updated: 2011-07-30 12:00 AM

Woke up super early but I bolted out of bed on a mission. Ate some peanut butter toast and drank some water mixed with Gatorade.
I think wrestling myself into the wetsuit was warmup enough.
