Pre-race routine:

Woke up super early but I bolted out of bed on a mission. Ate some peanut butter toast and drank some water mixed with Gatorade.
Event warmup:

I think wrestling myself into the wetsuit was warmup enough.
Swim
  • 14m 51s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
What would you do differently?:

Wasn't much else I could do, but with the kids tri the shallow water is what it is. Looking forward to my next race with a "real" swim leg.
Transition 1
  • 03m 7s
Comments:

Went off pretty much without a hitch. Drank some water really quick, got my socks and shoes on, and put my headband, helmet, and sunglasses on. Of course I could have been much much faster but I didn't want to do something stupid so I took my time. It's not like I was trying to place or anything.
Bike
  • 47m 23s
  • 11.18 miles
  • 14.16 mile/hr
Comments:

Well, this was pretty much to be expected. With my heavy, not-meant-for-racing upright bike, I can't really go much faster than this but I'm ok with that. My main goal was to not go too hard and save my legs, and I did that.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to drink water on the bike! Haha I was too afraid to reach down and grab my water bottle because I knew I wouldn't be able to get it back in without stopping entirely. So I never actually drank on the bike. I think it's because my position is so upright I have to lean over really far and I get nervous.
Transition 2
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

Ahh I couldn't figure out how to rack my bike with the two bikes that magically showed up that weren't there before! I wasted so much time trying to figure out how to squeeze mine in without touching the other bikes. I was such a noob in T2.
What would you do differently?:

Practice which direction to back my bike into other bikes for racking so I don't do that again.
Run
  • 32m 53s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm quite excited about this! This is pretty much my standalone 5K time which is awesome.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - this is as fast as I could have expected to go, I drank well, and never stopped to walk which was my first goal.
Post race
Warm down:

Pictures and smiling. Ha.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My lackluster swimming ability, ill-suited heavy bike and slow running legs.

Event comments:

After reading the race reports from last year, I think this year was probably a marked improvement. It was my first race, but I think it felt very well organized and there were plenty of aid stations on the run.

Hurray!

Yeah there was no way this was 750m, because if it was my pace would be under 2min/mi, which has never even been close to happening.
Suit:
Course: Ridiculously shallow like last year - at several points it made no sense to swim and I ran thru the water with everyone else which raised my heart rate. When I did swim though it was so easy to draft and that was awesome.
