Total Time = 1h 28m 26s
Overall Rank = 441/679
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 12/25
Pre-race routine:

Usual 4am wake up call. A little PB and honey toast with banana and Nuun drink.
Event warmup:

Didn't get in the water to swim before it closed so only did a few stretches. Not my preferred warm up.
Swim
  • 17m 30s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Chicago Park District did not want swimmers to actually swim so they set the first two hundred and last hundred yards in 2 foot of water. For safety reasons? Most waves ran/walked.
What would you do differently?:

Not much to do about the shallow water.
Transition 1
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

Long run from beach to bike. Got to push it the whole way.
What would you do differently?:

Just keep running strong out of the water.
Bike
  • 36m 30s
  • 11.18 miles
  • 18.38 mile/hr
Comments:

Head wind going out but not too bad. Tried to keep heart rate down little to save something for the run. No one passed me the entire route. Felt strong.
What would you do differently?:

Could have averaged 20 mph but then run would suffer. Work hills more in traning.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Long run through transition with bike. Got shoes off and running shoes on quickly.
What would you do differently?:

Practice dismount out of shoes to try it during a race.
Run
  • 30m 55s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Path out in shade, back in sun. Tried to push it after the first mile.
What would you do differently?:

Keep pushing harder. Might be better to have my own water on race belt. Hard to drink from those cups and I don't want to stop running just to drink.
Post race
Warm down:

Beer, hot dog, corn of the cob - what could be better.

Event comments:

Ram racing continues to put on great races. Not their decision to set the swim in too shallow water. Did not feel crowded at all. Transition was well put together. Bike chute not that great as you had to go all the way past transition and then in. A little long. Great after race food and band.
