Swim
Comments: Ok, I decided to do this about 40 days or so before the event. The last time I swam was december.... I had no idea what to expect for my swim. It kicked my arse. My walmart goggle leaked into my left eye and me and a bunch of peeps near me got hit by jelly fish at the first bouy. I think it took about 15 minutes to do the swim. not sure as the event only gave total time and I forgot to hit stopwatch. What would you do differently?: Smim alot more for next one!! Transition 1
Comments: I bought a 5 gallon bucket with 2 trays and a lid. figured it would be nice to have something to sit on when I put on socks/shoes. The trays will hold any small items and leave room for a couple towels in bucket. I think I was in and out pretty fast. grabbed water bottle rinsed off one foot, dried put on sock and shoe repeated. Bucket was nice to sit on would have been hard to keep sand off of feet before I had socks and shoes on without it. What would you do differently?: Dunno. I thought it went well. mostly due to reading alot of posts here on the forums. Shoudl be interesting on new bike with actual clipless shoes. Bike
Comments: Wish I had my garmin watch for this just to see the speed difference with the winds. This was the longest stretch I have done with a headwind. Before I at least turned every half mile or so changing the wind direction. 3 miles of a stiff headwind made me appriciate the wind at my back on the way back! What would you do differently?: Ride more... 10 miles was the longest ride I have done so far as an adult. Transition 2
Comments: Just had to drop off bike and grab shirt with race number. Rode bike with running shoes. Shirt got caught up on arm as I put it on, this made race number rip off of 2 left side safety pins had to fiddle with it for a second or two to fix. What would you do differently?: Maybe use my fuel belt to hold number Run
Comments: Was glad for the headwind on last half. Still not used to humidity again. Run went well as could be for not being really used to the other events first this will get better with time. What would you do differently?: More training. Post race
Event comments: Had fun. Cant wait for next year if I am home to see how much better my time gets! Last updated: 2011-08-07 12:00 AM

I started training for this, my first Tri while overseas for work. I had no access to a pool unless I wanted to hit the poo pond. I got back to states on 04 AUG 11 at dinner time. The POS MNT bike I purchased a month before needed some work. 05 AUG finally started working on bike around 2pm and packing to go, Replaced pedals with 10 buck el cheapos to fix the one I broke and changed out knobby tires to semi slick tires, cleaned chain ran out of time to get to packet picket up so hauled butt to hilton head. arrived at gotrisports at 550pm they had moved in the last year, packet pick up closed at 6. So checked into hotel and went back to mello mushroom to eat dinner. forgot that my plan was to buy goggles at the bike store. Traveled to walmart and got best goggles they had. Lubed chain in hotel room.
Major bummer for me I misplaced my garmin watch before I left the house. I enhjoy looking at the data from my runs and recently my bike rides. I like gadgets so my garmin watch actually helps motivate me to run and now ride.
I woke up at 0620 took care of normal mornin biz, grabbed a coke and rolled out. Registered and set up transition area.
Walked back to hotel to see how fam was doing at breakfast. Grabbed a bagel and headed back for 0745 race brief.
