Swim
Comments: This was a very good swim for me. We were in two pools, so there was some time lost switching. Did pass one person coming to the second pool. Then we had a long 30-45 second run to transition. What would you do differently?: Run faster. Also, I did slip coming out of the pool. The outdoor pool had a large ledge, and I just missed it getting my hand positioning. Also had a child walk in front of me which caused me to slip when slowing down to avoid the collision. Transition 1
Comments: Stopped to put socks on. Probably should have skipped it. Also had my shoes slipping on the pedals trying to clip in. What would you do differently?: Need to put the shoes on the pedals and go sockless. Still 9th fastest out of T1 Bike
Comments: This was a good ride, but I never felt all that good on the hills. Pushed hard for the first 2-3 miles, but could never quite catch my breath or get the legs feeling good. What would you do differently?: I need more time outside on the bike. Spinning just won't win it for me. Transition 2
Comments: Took my feet out of the shoes way too early. Also lost some time getting them comfortable on the pedals. I also had a hard time accelrating through the parking lot after turing into the rec center. Probably cost myself 5-10 seconds here. What would you do differently?: Practice. And know the distance where the turn into the rec center was. Run
Comments: I felt slow coming off the bike. Tried to just keep pushing and keep the legs turning. Didn't get comfortable until about 1.2 miles into the run, at the bottom of the first big hill. Of course that put me back in the red. I was really glad I had run the course, so I did know what to expect. Power up the hills with short fast stride, and then stretch out when flat or downhill. What would you do differently?: Need to train more on hills. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, had some water and beer. And waited for results. Still wish I could have done better. I gave up a lot of time on the run and even lost some on the bike. Giving up time on the bike is not the norm for me and shows that I have been lax in training. Hard to get out much with a 5 yo at home. I'll work on that next year. What limited your ability to perform faster: As mentioned not training enough on the bike outside. Easy to fix, but will probably wait until next year to ramp it up. Set expectation at the start of the year. Only have myself to blame. Event comments: This is a good local race. Things went smoothly and they have a lot going on with 3 races that morning. Lots of volunteers and nice people. Will probably do this again in a few years. I need a change of pace/venue next year. Last updated: 2011-08-08 12:00 AM

Highlands Ranch Race Series
85F / 29C
Sunny
Overall Rank = 13/122
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 3/10
Got up early and headed over to set up transition. Turned out we had pre-assigned racks, so at least I got a good parking spot, and did manage to get an end spot.
Walked around, and watched the Jrs go off. Nice to see the younge people racing. Then sat through the Oly distance competitors. Probably should have been in this race, but... Then finally it was our turn.Did go for a quick/short run to loosen up the legs.
