Swim
Comments: my plan for today was to actually try and race the swim since it was short. Well, looking at the buoys from shore it looked a lot longer than I would imagine. (someone later said it was longer than 500m) Anyhow, I went in to the water thinking I could try and race - what I realized was that I was tired from the long race the day before and felt it. I got the panic feeling and couldn't get my breathing right so I ended up backstroking the whole thing. Yikes. But I did pass people with the backstroke so it isn't a horrible option for me. So I flubbered the swim but it didn't turn out half bad. What would you do differently?: Not sure. Transition 1
Comments: Just wore my fleece cap and was off. I couldn't feel my feet again but oh well. Bike
Comments: I just wanted to go as hard as I could the entire time. The bike leg is ALWAYS my slowest of the 3. I was happy with these results. I can always pass people on the hills but then they get me on the flats. I was determined not to have this happen. One woman kept passing me on the downhill/flat side of a hill that I just passed her on. We did this the entire course until the end where there is the biggest hill - I took her on that hill and then went as hard as I could on the flat going in to T2. I didn't see her again. So happy to have had a good bike leg. What would you do differently?: nothing Transition 2
Comments: My friend was just behind me on the bike coming into T2 and she left going out before me. I still couldn't feel my feet so I stumbled getting my shoes on. I got on my friends heels headed out, however. Run
Comments: I stayed right behind my friend until just before the turn around. She had a good pace and I was hoping my right calf would stop being so tight. I felt a bit better at just before the turn around and passed my friend and tried to keep up a good pace on the way back. I was passing lots of people and then I hear from behind me someone coming up FAST. A woman passes me with an amazing pace. I see her age and realize we are 1/4 mile away from the finish and I have to keep up. I put myself right behind her and think about when I should over take her. My mind said wait until the last 50 yards but suddenly with still about 1/4 mile to go my legs say GO. I sprint by her and realize that she will now try to catch me so I better keep this pace up. I am also thinking I might die. I have passed people just before the finish before only to let up and be repassed right before the line. I was determined not to let this happen. I kept up best I could and didn't see her again. It was painful but so fun! I should stick to the short distances I think. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: As usual, my right calf. Event comments: Great race (both days) Last updated: 2011-08-14 12:00 AM

Wore my new running shoes out the door so I wouldn't show up without them like I did the day before!
Quick swim before the wave - should have been longer and harder than I did maybe.
