Swim
Comments: I have no where to go but up with my swimming. I just remained calm and sang Adele songs inside my head during this swim. I did a straight forward front-crawl the entire swim, but wasn't moving much faster than the frog-leggers. What would you do differently?: Work on speed and form now that I'm getting more comfortable in open water. But at least I wasn't hanging on a kayak like my last 750 meter swim. Transition 1
Comments: Since I didn't push it on the swim I was able to make my way pretty quickly up the steep hill to transition. 9th overall What would you do differently?: more practice, I think I could move a little faster if I didn't have this feeling that I'm forgetting to do something. (just happens in T1) Bike
Comments: Good amount of rain on this ride which added an exciting element. Really helped out with the humidity. I took a gel about halfway through, which is something I have never done on a shorter ride, seemed to keep my energy level up throughout the rest of the race. The rain on the downhills felt like needles hitting my face, just squinted through it and held on for dear life. What would you do differently?: nothing Transition 2
Comments: I seemed to step on every sharp little rock that was available while getting back to my rack. I took time to empty the water out of my shoes and say a few words to my neighbor. What would you do differently?: Be more focused Run
Comments: I think the conditions slowed many people down on this trail, but it was great. I ran directly by my campsite and my son was waiting to high-five me a cheer for me, which was great. A later found out he was high-fiving nearly everyone! What would you do differently?: not be so careful. Post race
Warm down: Walked back over to the campsite, relaxed with my son and cheered for some of the other runners from the comfort of our tent. We both walked back to the starting area where the awards were winding down. Checked the results and discovered I was bumped to 1st in Age Group, since the overall female was in my AG. Cool. Collected my $15 TrySports GC and headed back to the tent. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of confidence in the water and trail conditions. Event comments: I loved this race, enjoyed camping the night before, enjoyed the diversity of the trail run and also the challenges of the weather. Hope I can do it again next year and knock some minutes off my time. Last updated: 2011-08-14 12:00 AM

Camped out at Mayo Park the night before, which needless to say was not routine. But was accused of glam-ping since we did have electricity (laptop, lights, fan, blender, ect..) and was able to make me usual morning smoothie. Took the 2 min. drive to the start, and set things up.
Stretched a little, swam out to the first sight buoy and back. Ate a couple bites of a cliff bar, then decided to go ahead and drink the RedBull that my 13 yr. old son was absolutely sure would give me super powers.
