Total Time = 2h 10m 54s
Overall Rank = 575/719
Age Group = 34-39
Age Group Rank = 83/88
Pre-race routine:

Arrived early. found my rack. Set up transition. Wandered a bit. Walked the swim exit to my rack.
Event warmup:

Ran about a mile.
Swim
  • 18m
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was ok. Climbing down the big rocks into the little rocks was interesting. Couldn't seem to get into a rhythm with the swim. I think I may have been a little more constricted in the wetsuit than I thought. Goggles were fogged terribly, had to pul them off to find the 1st buoy. Passed quite a few poeple on the return.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe start in the middle of the pack. I started in the back as this was my second race. I had to move and surge around people quite a bit.
Transition 1
  • 03m 14s
Comments:

I was jacked up and out of breath during the transition and couldn't calm down. Transition went as well as it could, no big flubs. Got my gear and jogged the eternal transition to the bike mount.
Bike
  • 59m 26s
  • 17 miles
  • 17.16 mile/hr
Comments:

I just could not get comfortable on the ride. I was just flailing and hammering. my heart rate watch was maxed out and beeping (forgot to turn of the HR alerts). I just could not calm down but still increased my average speed from my first race so I was pleased. Still, people were passing me like my bike was broken.
What would you do differently?:

Train hard for more power. Train more for hills.
Transition 2
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

T2 was ok. i was still just out of control with breathing and heart rate. GRabbed my gear and, again, jogged to the run out while putting my race belt on.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 47m 53s
  • 4.9 miles
  • 09m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was ok. My stupid watch was beeping the whole time warning about my high heart rate. no big. I wanted to average 10:30's at least on the run and did that quite easily. Only swore off triathlon once between mile 1 and 2 which was also an improvement over my last race!
What would you do differently?:

Run Faster
Post race
Warm down:

walked to the food table

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I felt I was trained for this race as planned. This was my A race for the year which replaced Millenium when it was canceled. My plan was to finish and learn about triathlon.

Event comments:

East Grand Rapids knows how to put on a race. The community is absolutely awesome and supportive. I will definitely do this again as well as lots of other races around Reeds Lake.
