Swim
Comments: Swim was pretty uneventful. There was extra silt in the water but all that did was reduce my normal lake visibility from 18 inches to 4 inches. The yellow (non turn buoys) I thought were a little difficult to see What would you do differently?: I think I need to reexamine the full wetsuit. I am not as fast as I should be. My cadence is much slower than normal and my stroke changes form due to the restriction of the suit. It is an entry level model from 5 years ago. I think when the sleeveless models go on sale for 99 bucks this winter Santa might have to bring me one (and hopefully a minute or two off my time) Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit strippers! That is almost as good as strippers in wetsuits. Either one is appreciated at races in my opinion. Bike
Comments: Did not expect this. I was shooting for 19.5 mph ish. I just felt great the whole way. I was able to chat with people along the way. I drank my whole soy milk, had a GU and half of a cliff bar (about 800 calories). That was a good amount for me. This was just an enjoyable ride (although most people, including myself, had the length between 57-58 miles). They did have to change the bike course due to some road construction. There was a small stretch of crappy road (maybe 4 miles or so). Coming back in was a little hairy the last 8 miles or so because the detour took us through town. Kinda got stuck behind an RV ( they are a little wide to pass without a nice shoulder). Going off as the fourth wave gave me plenty of people to ride around so I was rarely out of sight of everyone. What would you do differently?: I did drop my chain going up a hill. Had to stop and put it back on - loss of 30 secs and momentum. Only go 56 miles? :) Transition 2
Comments: nothing exceptional Run
Comments: Well I knew this wasnt going to go well due to a severe lack of run base due to injury this year. I was hoping to go 8:40 min/mile. I was fine until about mile 6 (did 8:16 pace for the first 4.4 miles according to the race chip) when I started to get hungry but nothing was very good to eat. I tried gels, coke, pretzels, gatorade and anything else. I just ran out of gas. I wasnt cramping , my tank was just empty. I started walking aid stations at mile 7. Managed to only walk the aid stations the rest of the way so I am kinda proud of that. What would you do differently?: I think I need to figure out nutrition for the run. Probably starts with eating on the bike. I did set a big PR on the bike so I may have gassed myself. I knew the run would be tough based on fitness Post race
Warm down: Walked around - why? because there werent any seats near the finish area. What limited your ability to perform faster: just some additional run time Event comments: I PR'ed by 8 minutes from last year Got to hang with BT peeps before during and after the race I like the course (although the monotony of the middle six miles on the run is tough on the brain) Some minor negatives - Cedar Point backing out on tickets, running out of shirts and visors , lack of good recovery area for athletes Positives- Close geographically , organized, lots of local people, supports Ohio , well set up for families if you wish to bring people Last updated: 2011-08-22 12:00 AM

Woke up in the fabulous Econolodge South. Checked myself for bedbugs, lice and dead hookers. Scoring a triple negative, I proceeded to try to apply the number tattoos. I am very good at this except all my number 3s were backwards. I am not very brain sharp at 5:45AM. Ate a PBJ and an apple and drove off to transition at 6:30. Was able to very leisurely set everything up, chat with people, make a friend to get suncreen and poo. Then walked down the beach in my rubber suit.
a few strokes in Lake Erie. drank some gatorade while waiting to start. Gap of 1 hr + between getting kicked out of transition and my wave starting
