Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30; got ready and headed to race site. Would help to have gone there once before, since finding a place in the dark isn't that easy. It was quite dark in transition. Ended up using iPhone as a flashlight.
Event warmup:

Light stretching.
Swim
  • 05m 22s
  • 383 yards
  • 01m 24s / 100 yards
Comments:

I made sure to start as close to the start line as possible. Someone swam over me, but otherwise did fairly well. Course didn't seem like 350M. I did the Cooper Sprint in July and there is no way, I've improved my time by over a minute.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more open water swims.
Transition 1
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

Getting out of the water on the boat ramp was a bit slippery. Then, the gravel was a bit painful. I remember people running past me and I didn't dare go faster than a jog on the way to the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Move faster; maybe water shoes so I can run quicker.
Bike
  • 41m 20s
  • 12 miles
  • 17.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Part of my goal was to complete this tri faster than my last and to finish faster than my two friends. Since there were two loops, it was helpful to gauge where my friends were.
What would you do differently?:

Keep working at cycling to improve my speed. 17MPH is fast for me and it helped that it was flat.
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

I currently don't use cycling shoes, so I can get out pretty quick. Just took off my helmet, grabbed my headband and left.
What would you do differently?:

Should be able to do this faster.
Run
  • 31m 46s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt a bit overheated. I may consider buying a sleeveless top. I poured a bit of water on me to help cool down. Other than that, I ran this 5k faster than before. My previous times are closer to 36 minutes.
What would you do differently?:

Sleeveless shirt.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to where my wife and friends were sitting. Had an otter pop.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more training.

Event comments:

There was only one main bathroom. Some porta potties would help.
