Run
Comments: Kept an conserative pace at the beginning running next to the 3:15 pacer and after about mile 7 I broke away at around a 7 pace close (100 yards) from the 3:10 pacer. What would you do differently?: I would probably do more miles a week during the training. This time I picked a beginners running plan and tried to maintain close to a 3:11 time but after mile 20 my legs just died. I had literally no gas. I was trying as hard as I could to get my legs pumping but I could barely get under a 9 minute pace for the last 10K. This ended up adding 11 minutes to my time but I think it had to do with the lack of miles during the week to prepare my body to maintain a fast pace throughout the entire race. At the end I had a very scary moment where I tried to sprint out the last 100 meters but both my entire legs crapped up and I literally almost collapsed. I had to do a quick stretch to start back up. Thankfully I didn't injure anything. The next one I should just force myself to pace at 7:30 and surge up at the remaining 10K to ensure that I have the energy to avoid a wall. Post race
Warm down: Stretched. Walked around. Iced my legs for 20 minutes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Knee injury from a 5K. Lack of major miles. Failure to stretch and ice during training until knee injury. Event comments: Can't harp too much on the areas I need to improve upon. I think I learned a lot about how to train smarter and recover faster. Although I believe I missed a prime opportunity to get a 3:10 I still had a PR and knocked 4 minutes off my previous Marathon time. Can't argue with that. Last updated: 2011-09-02 12:00 AM

Slammed a gel. Did some stretching and half an FRS energy drink.
A lot of dancing at the start.
