Sunny
Total Time = 49m 27s
Overall Rank = 4/410
Age Group = 45-49/Masters
Age Group Rank = 1/25
Pre-race routine:

Stayed overnight with TDB at the beach. Usual breakfast..wheat bagel, ensure and peanut butter crackers
Event warmup:

Did about 200-250 swim. Gulf pretty flat so no problems-felt really comfortable
Swim
  • 06m 30s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

I thought I had signed up early enough so that I would start based on estimated swim time. Unfortunately, must have been too late and started in the last 25 or so racers. Course really congested so I started wide and tried to avoid the congestion...Really good swim in terms of comfort level but the extra distance resulted in a much slower time. I think I would have been 30 seconds to a minute faster had I started toward the front.
What would you do differently?:

Not get stuck in the back
Transition 1
  • 01m 36s
What would you do differently?:

Had a little trouble with shoe/left cleat and lost a few seconds. Otherwise pretty decent T1
Bike
  • 26m 26s
  • 10 miles
  • 22.70 mile/hr
Comments:

A little disappointed with average speed. Really was hoping to average close to 24mph. Headwind on way out. Pretty comfortable pace. AP 244/NP 252. Given power numbers average speed should have been a bit higher.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. Wanted to go hard but not all out and I paced pretty well
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Lost 20 to 30 seconds here. Seems that nothing went very smoothly. Oh well.
What would you do differently?:

Have things go better
Run
  • 13m 46s
  • 2 miles
  • 06m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Leaving T2 I knew I needed to break 14 minutes on the run to come in under 50 minutes for the race. First mile was around 7 minutes and decided to push it to the finish. Solid run for me as I do little "hard" running.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out, visited with friends, ate a great breakfast buffet and picked up award....FUN!

Event comments:

Beautiful day and Team Magic put on a great race and post race. Great breakfast for the sprint finishers and lunch for the olympic racers. Great venue and cooler weather this year made the race even more fun.

My first WIN with a first place Master's finish.
