![]() Run
Comments: Considering my goal was to just finish - I accomplished it. I was running with a TFL injury in my right hip and a pulled hamstring in my left leg. I was actually running for a 5:00:00 up until mile 10 but then the pain got too severe and I had to add in a lot of walk breaks and they were long. I probably would say I only actually ran 70% of the course and walked the rest. I wound up changing how I was running to help alleviate the pain, and ran more on my toes. BAD IDEA. I wound up with severly blistered feet and lost 5 toenails. It took 9 days to finally be able to wear closed toe shoes and no gauze on them. What would you do differently?: I vow to never, ever, run a marathon injured or sick again. This was my 3rd marathon, the first one was Grandma's and I had heat exhaustion and don't remember 6 of the miles (5-11). When I went to the dr. on Monday afterwards - he said I have pneumonia. No wonder I felt like crap! The second marathon, SF Nike Women's Marathon, I got two HUGE cherry blisters on the outside side of both my big toes, but continued on. And now Twin Cities and 2 injuries. I've learned my lesson ![]() Post race
Warm down: stretch, ate 1/2 roast chicken sandwich, slept the rest of the day What limited your ability to perform faster: injuries Event comments: My biggest complaint that wasn't in my control, was that I didn't get the finishers shirt in my size. I know this happens a lot in smaller races, but come on Twin Cities in Motion! I paid a lot of money, and I made the 6:15:00 cut off time and I registered MONTHS in advance with my size of shirt requested. How is it possible that it wasn't available to me if you take the tags off peoples bibs and give them the size that they ordered that you wouldn't have enough? Urgh - I know it's dumb, but after running that long and so much pain, I was irked. Last updated: 2011-09-08 12:00 AM
