Pre-race routine:

This was my first time ever doing a triathlon. So I don't really have a routine to follow. I woke up and left the house at 5:00am. Sipped some water, had a banana and granola bar on the drive. Arrived in GR at 6:00am. Got my packet quickly and was set up by 6:20am.
Event warmup:

Walked, stretched. Took a quick dip in the lake to check temp. and put my cap on.
Swim
  • 19m 23s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 12s / 100 yards
Comments:

First open water swim in a race. First open water swim with other people. I felt great, wasn't tired or anything, just had terrible navigation and was awful at swimming in a crowd.
What would you do differently?:

Practice open water swimming. Not just in the pool.
Transition 1
  • 03m 40s
Comments:

The pins holding my number on my shirt got stuck and I could not get my shirt on... it was weird and I struggled for over a minute to get it right. This was my first ever transition so despite the shirt issue I felt it went well.
What would you do differently?:

Practice putting my shirt on after I pin the number on.
Bike
  • 49m 35s
  • 17 miles
  • 20.57 mile/hr
Comments:

I did much better on the bike than I thought I would. I was hoping for 55min, but did better. I wish I would have pushed it more because I had some left in the tank when I finished. Due to my terrible swim I passed a lot of people. Which was fun and motivating. I'm glad I had a solid bike, that I had trained on a bunch... it helped.
What would you do differently?:

Push it a little more. Especially on the hills.
Transition 2
  • 02m 18s
Comments:

Went great. Took some time to tie my running shoes. Ate a GU packet too.
Run
  • 38m 10s
  • 4.9 miles
  • 07m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt great. Had a good run.
What would you do differently?:

Push it more towards the end. At mile 3 I picked up the pace but could have gone faster. It took me over a mile to get in a rhythm from the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a bunch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of experience.

Event comments:

My best race so far! :) Seriously I was very impressed with everything. It was very organized. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Volunteers were EVERYWHERE. The course was marked really well too. I will definitely be back!
