Pre-race routine:

Protein Shake, Coffee, Bananna, Cliff Bar before race
Event warmup:

Easy swim to get used to the water temp. Very cold!!
Swim
  • 07m 3s
  • 600 yards
  • 01m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

So happy I rented a wetsuit for the race and I'm glad I did a preliminary trial swim the day before with the wetsuit in Prior Lake. I was ready for the cold water. Well, as least I knew what to expect.
What would you do differently?:

I just need to swim more. This is my first season and I have a hard time getting into a ryhthm. As far as this race I wouldn't do much differently. I got in early for a warm up swim, something I did not do at Lake Marion and it was so beneficial.
Transition 1
  • 02m 48s
Comments:

I cut two minutes off my last T1, so happy about that.
Bike
  • 44m 45s
  • 14.25 miles
  • 19.11 mile/hr
Comments:

I just got some clipless pedals from Scuff, thanks Scuff, but I did not want to use them yet. Toes fell asleep again, but I'm getting used to it. I can't seem to ride for over 8 miles without my toes falling asleep. After I get my clippless pedals and shoes I hope I don't have this problem. I ran about a mile before I got the circulation back into my toes.
What would you do differently?:

I'll take <19 mph. Happy with that in my first season.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

Since I don't have clippless pedals yet and I'm using the same shoes for biking and running this transition is easy.
What would you do differently?:

When coming into the transition I need to start thinking of the things I need to do in order to speed up the T2 time, but happy with it.
Run
  • 25m 27s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

I got the side ache again, same as Lake Marion, I don't know how to get rid of those. Maybe I'm drinking too much on the later stages of the bike? I don't know...I had to stop early in the run to stretch out my side. Obviously that didn't work so I jogged slowly and eventually, after about a mile, it went away.
What would you do differently?:

Dial in hydration and nutrition so I don't get anymore nasty side aches.
Post race
Event comments:

Some day I will compete in a triathlon and it won't be raining/misting. So far I'm 0/2. I'm looking forward to racing in the sun!!

I'm hooked!!
