Run
Transition 1
Swim
Comments: The first wave cut the corner buoy. My wave did not. I was a little unused to open water swims, so I kept my head out of water a lot. Considering I did this, I did really well time wise here. When I can get used to head down swimming I should blast right through the course. What would you do differently?: Practice open water swimming. Transition 2
Comments: I felt a little off balance getting out of the water, so walked up to the transition. The sand was soooo rocky until the carpet. I put on my race shirt, shorts, socks and sneaks no problem. I didn't wear a wetsuit, so I didn't worry about that. Run
Comments: Since there were only 6 of us doing the Aquathlon, I was alone when I left the transition. I felt a little unsure, as there was no one to follow, but I had walked the transitions earlier in the day. I am still getting my running legs in general, so I powerwalked most of the way. Halfway through my first time to the turnaround, my only class competitor passed me. I tried to run here and there, but I felt out of breath and kept getting stitches. During my second lap, the top tier triathletes started passing me. I managed to run about 1 k of the entire thing, including the turnaround at the transition and the finish. I am so proud I finished under an hour (barely!) What would you do differently?: Train more, run more. Post race
Warm down: Stretched a little, walked around. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of running training. Event comments: I wrote "too hard" based on my ability...but I realize I don't have the ability yet....not enough training on my part went into this. Last updated: 2011-10-11 12:00 AM

This was my first race, and I wasn't really prepared very well. I have a pool swimming (competitive) background, so I wasn't too worried about the swim, but I have no longevity for the run. I woke up at 4:30, had a breakfast bar and water and drove to the site.
I got marked first thing, set up my stuff and got my chip. I met a really cool guy that helped calm my nerves. He told me if I was a strong swimmer, to go for it instead of holding back like the articles suggest for newbies.I walked the transition area several times to get an idea of where I was heading and then stretched. Then I jumped in the water and swam a bit. I didn't wear a wetsuit for the event so I had the bonus of being stared at.
