Pre-race routine:

Pretty uneventful morning considering I have been used to traithlons all year. Didn't plan breakfast very well, so I had a couple of cupcakes (without icing) leftover from my daughter's b-day party...carbs kind of.
Event warmup:

Got to the race site and handed off my bag. I then walked my wife and daughter to the VIP tent to make sure they could get in ok. I then went back to find some friends but lost them and went on a mission to find the bathroom. Ran around various building in Charlotte until I found a restroom....ate a Gu, drank some water and then ran to the start line during the national anthem...close call!

Comments:

Went through the start gate and started my watch. Unfortunatley the GPS wasnt locked in and I couldn't tell speed or anything. Eventually got to Mile Market 2 and saw I was at a 14:00 pace. Slowed down and hit 8:00/mile pace through the 10k split. After that is was basically hang on until the end. I did get a major side stitch at mile 4 and just ran through it for the rest of the race.
What would you do differently?:

I need to figure out how to control my breathing better to eliminate the side stitches....I definatley could have done better, but condisering I PR'd this race by almost 45 minutes from last Half-Mary in 2006 (in much better shape now because of triathlons) I was happy!
Post race
Warm down:

Met the family at the VIP tent...drank some beer...ate some Chick-Fil-A...spent 45 mintues at bag drop to get my bag back...that sucked! then went and listend to some bands...drank some more beer...finally ate lunch at BW3...wings and beer!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Side stitch...

Event comments:

Overall good race...convention center bailed on them at the last minute so porta-potties were scarce at the beginning. Bag pick-up after the race could have been better organized!
