Swim
Comments: If the course distance was accurate, this was my fastest open water swim. I'm still giving away 4-5 min. to the top guys in my age group. All went well. Still need a lot of work here What would you do differently?: My sighting is real good, just need more speed Transition 1
Comments: Had to put wet suit into a transport bag so they could bring it to the finish. This is not the kind of thing you practice but it did take a little extra time. Transitions for me are very simple and efficient What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: Got up to speed well and settled into a good pace. Tried drinking early but my stomach wanted none of it. I wasn't thirsty and it was cool out but all my nutrition was in that bottle so I kept trying to drink. No other problems here, My bike fitness is better than ever and this is an area where I can make up a lot of time. Towards the end I went back and forth with two guys, one of them dropped off the other was in the next age group and he hung in there to the end. What would you do differently?: nothing Transition 2
Comments: Found my rack and bag. Somebody tied a knot in my transition bag, so instead of trying to untie it I tore the bag open, shoes on helmet off grabbed number belt and away we go. What would you do differently?: Pretty much flawless Run
Comments: My legs transitioned real well and I settled into a 6:30 pace. I wish I had an exciting race story here but basically I was in no mans land. I passed one guy in my age group at mile 2. Turns out he was out of the water 5 minutes and 10 seconds before me (refer to swim segment what would you do differently?) I knew as I passed him he was not a strong runner and so there I was, alone to the finish. What would you do differently?: I should have tightened my lace locks. You do or in my case don't do some stupid shit sometimes. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed some tasty fruit and water. Went to my truck, my dad walked with me and kept me company. Changed to something clean. Made it back in time for awards. I also won case of Cliff bars in the raffle What limited your ability to perform faster: refer to swim segment what would you do differently? Event comments: My beautiful wife could not be there for this race, she had puppy duty (I had the better end of that deal)But I did have a great cheering section, Dad, Joyce, my niece Sophie and nephew Ian. Thank you so much for all the wonderful hospitality Dad and Joyce. Last updated: 2011-10-30 12:00 AM

Usually I don't sleep much the night before a race but I slept at my Father's house a couple miles from the race venue, and I actually slept very well and even overslept by 20 min.
There was some confusion over swim cap color. They announced my group needed to exchange our caps for a different color, but when I went to the packet pickup booth the lady would not give me the new color. After arguing with her I finally realized who gives a shit?? I have my timing chip and I'm starting with my age group so there. No running warm up today, just some swimming.
