Swim
Comments: almost DFL. This really was an easy couse - so it is a mystery why I sucked so bad. I guess it is all in my head- the cold, murky water. I can swim and I've trained hard for nine months but I hit that open water - I just freak and forget how to swim. The second half was a little better but this course was so short it didn't really matter. It did not help that I was the second wave. What would you do differently?: practice, practice, preactice - open water swims. I have the skills I just need to apply them. I am going to have to use some positive reinforcement or something or this is going to derail me from the sport I love. Also I need to warm up in the water before the race. The race is half over before I even know what hit me. Transition 1
Comments: as usual my T-1 is slow. I am always trying to get focused after swim and dry - I did not want to be too wet on the bike. everything went smooth - just did not do it quick enough What would you do differently?: just do everything quicker, not spend so much time drying off. Your not getting out of the shower man! Bike
Comments: was much happier with my speed. Was better than expected. I know this was a fast course, but I'll take it. I'm still pretty far back in the field but I did pass quite few people and for me the speed was pretty good. Something to build on. What would you do differently?: push a little bit harder. I still had gas in the tank and pushed a little more speed. I was at my goal speed and felt I didn't need to push more. I could have and I should have. Transition 2
Comments: this was much better than T-2. Still not blazing but acceptable What would you do differently?: get lace locks Run
Comments: this clearly is my strongest event. This was my tri PR. I still had some energy left after run - sprinted at the end. What would you do differently?: work more speed into my training, work on bricks to feel better off the bike Post race
Warm down: stand around and eat bread and Clif bar What limited your ability to perform faster: genetics and training...I guess that's it. I can't do any thing about the first thing but I can work on the second. Event comments: First race of the season and instantly remembered why I love this sport. It is a blast! I have some serious work to work out my mental issues in the swim because I don't want to give up the sport. The other thing I love about this sport are the people. The bonus for this event was meeting my fellow BTer's: Ray, Amanda and Rob. All very cool people. Amanda won her division, Rob won his age group, Ray made a mean Salsa and I... well I survived with a smile on my face (I guess we know who the weak link is here) Dispite my shortcomings, I had fun and I'm still smiling. I guess that is what it is all about. Last updated: 2006-04-27 12:00 AM

got up about 5:00 after a restless sleep, had breakfast ( a banana & two bagels) and headed over to the site at about 6. got set up pretty quick. I've got this part down. Actually I think I got there a little too early. I guess that is ok. Watched kids triathlon - never too early too start. I stood in the water for a few minutes. THis did nothing except make me cold.
5 minute jog and 10 minute pace around the transition looking for other BTers, unsuccessful. Apparently, I am blind. As it turns out I think I walked right past AJfreddy and Stargazer about 10 times.
