Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:15 and felt relaxed. Considering I am still recovering from a calf injury before/during Oceanside that kept me idle until April 17th I had no great performance expectations and that really took the pressure off. Ate breakfast and headed to transition
Event warmup:

Ran part of the run course to build up a sweat and then got the wetsuit on.
Swim
  • 05m 27s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 15s / 100 yards
Comments:

WOW!! I am suspicious of this split b/c it is much faster than I usually swim, but I will take it if it's true! Felt pretty good. Tried to get out in the front for as long as I could. Once I rounded the last buoy and needed to head for the dock I got disoriented and took a few seconds to figure out where to go. I could not see the red buoy and got on the feet of another swimmer who went by me until I saw the red buoy...I took off for the last 50 yds or so to make up time.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. This is a dream swim split for me!
Transition 1
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Great T1 for me. I'm usually slow as molasses here but not this time.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure.
Bike
  • 23m 55s
  • 9 miles
  • 22.58 mile/hr
Comments:

Was not sure what to expect on the bike b/c of my lack of training recently as well as a re-fit I had 10 days prior. Wattage was 10 lower than last 2 sprints so I guess I can go faster once I get in better shape and adapt to the position. Overall I felt good. Held back a bit b/c I was worried about running off the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

This was pretty good for me. I guess I could practice the routine more to get more efficient.
Run
  • 20m 35s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

As I feared my run was not there. During the Desert Sprint (on a similar distance according to organizers) I ran 18:48 so I know what I can do once I train. I pushed but did not want to blow up. I cannot complain too much as my first firm run since Oceanside was an 8.25 miler the day before the race.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

My recent injury definitely had a fitness impact.

Event comments:

I enjoyed the race quite a bit. I will definitely be back next year. Fun, short and sweet!
