Swim
Comments: It was a disaster from the start. I have been swimming really well, so I am not sure what brought on the debilitating quad and calf cramps that came on about 200 meters into the swim. I ended up doing a 2 arm 1 legged breast stroke for 3/4 of the swim. It sucked. What would you do differently?: Stertch more. Warm up. They stopped the warm up 45 minutes before my wave went off. Probably would not have helped. Transition 1
Comments: Fine minus the stecthing the cramps out and trying to drink a little all slowed me down. Bike
Comments: Disaster number 2. Took a massive spill on the bike. Turned myself to adjust my race bnelt they insisted be worn on the bike. I overcorrected a little wobble and I was down. I left most of the skin on my right side on the pavement. I tried to get unclipped and jump baclk on the bike, until reality hit and I got light hjeaded and had to sit down for about 5-10 minutes to collect myself and evaluate my condition. There were osme very nice spectators who helped look at the areas on my back I could not see. I was about 2 miles from the start of the second loop, so I dedided I would see how it went and make a decision at that point. Overall I had a good bike. I lost 8:36 according to the Garmin auto pause and the official time on my wreck. So my average wouldve been 20+ if not for the stop and the pain I felt the rest of the ride. Transition 2
Comments: Second self evaluation. I looked okay. Didnt hurt to bad yet, but I knew once I stopped it would stiffen up. Decided to run. Run
Comments: I guess I am okay with the run considering I what I had put myself through up to that point. To make matter worse though the sun came out and I realizxed I was so busy trying to make up time on the bike I neglected water and nutrtion on the second loop of the bike. Post race
Warm down: Med tent and urgent care. Event comments: Ended up being a well run race by the RD. HE caught alot of grief from the lack of communication, but he pulled it off. Looking forard to healing up the next 3 weeks and redeeming myself at KS 70.3. Last updated: 2011-12-14 12:00 AM
