  • Comments: Ultramax, would you please come take over the Legend races? Thanks for the post race atmosphere, with Ironband playing, music, beer on tap post race, and a bbq food truck. Beer glasses (not goggles), trucker hats, and nice t-shirts for swag was nice too.

  • Comments: Overall a good race, well organized etc. I heard some folks mention they would have liked more water stations, I think there were two. It worked out for me but i did take one gatorade and one water at each one.

  • Comments: I really like KC Tri. I think Ultramax always delivers a very good value, and run the race correctly. Nothing to complain about. The swag was nice, the course is fun and fair, (although it can get slightly congested on the bike course), they really do a good job on all aspects of the event.

  • Comments: Good race. I think I'll do it again. It was flippen cold at first with an air temp of 41 when we got there. It's been unseasonably cold this week. I got 2 t-shirts and a really nice medal. This is only 3 hours away from me, so think I'll make this a year race. I will say this run was about .1m short and the bike about .3m short. All my friends' GPS seem to be show the exact same thing as mine for distance. Normally it's a little higher due to non perfect tangents so the actual course may be a little shorter than that.

  • Comments: 4th time to do this race. The food at the end of the race was only water, half a banana and granola bars. Had to buy other food. The did give free beer to those that wanted it, but the line was very long. Good free stuff, Pint Glass, cool medal, Finisher T. Tranistion is a chip and tar finish which is hard on the feet after the swim. Course is great, very challenging, run is a bit flat on a gravel trail.

  • Comments: I really like the KC Tri. I think they do a good job. The bring a good vibe and buzz. The offer good swag (however it was a bit less this year). This is not a complaint, however I find it funny: The day after the 2014 Tri, KC Tri sent out an email about the 2015 race and the new things they were offering: "carpet in transition area!", "KOM competition!", "Fastest Rider Competition!", "Slip and Slide finish line!". They didn't have any of these things. I'm glad they didn't....(the slip and slide sounds stupid) but I find it funny when race directors continue to promise things and then don't deliver. Perhaps this was an overzealous marketing intern that made these statements. Perhaps an insurer saw this list and knew how risky it was. I think the Kansas City Triathlon is the best race in KC. It doesn't need gimmicks. Overall, a very good race and I'll continue to participate in it.

  • Comments: Another well-run Kansa City triathlon. The crew was well aware of the possibilites of storms before the race and planned ahead accordingly. Speaks to their preparedness.

  • Comments: Here's my only gripe with the race, finish line beverages: flavored water and beer, I figure they cancel each other out so it's not really a gripe but I was unaware of any normal water being available at the finish, weird. Everything else was superb.

  • Comments: I had a great time at this race and was really impressed. They gave away a ton of stuff with your registration, and everything was well organized. I was also really happy with the overall amount of competition at this race! It was really stacked, and it's fun to race really good people!

  • Comments: Overall, I loved the race. I'm entering my 3rd season of triathlon and it's amazing that this is actually my first local race. We've typically travelled as a family for races in the past. It was nice to sleep in my own bed and to be so close. I wanted to love the Kansas City Tri as it is the flagship "hometown" race and I really feel they did a great job of trying to make it a bigger event. Nice freebies, good race support, perfect weather, well marked bike course, etc. I thought things went well. Sure, the ground in transition was rough...but that's a minor quibble. I will definitely do this race again. I'm also happy that the power struggle between the 5150 series and KC tri seems to be dead. Last year, both races were scheduled for the same day and I think everyone lost. I hope to see both events thrive.

  • Comments: All in all I'm very happy I did this. This was actually only my 2nd official Olympic distance race and a PR! The Hy-Vee qualifier was supposed to be my first but the swim was cancelled so Hy-Vee was my first where I went 2:25 so beat that by a couple minutes. I'll have to say the wetsuit swim had a lot to do with it. The race was well organized and there were plenty of volunteers. The SWAG was excellent, two T-shirts, blanket, water bottle, beer glass and a few other items. Post race grub was "meh" as all I could find was oranges and maybe bananas. NO CHOCOLATE MILK???? That's my favorite post race. If you bought the VIP Exerience the post race grub was better I hear (BBQ I think).

  • Comments: Well done race. Lots of swag given out. Noticed an increased presence of USAT race officials in transition and on the bike course, which is good.

  • Comments: A good race for me even though there was no swim. I appreciate that they were able to make a decision and go with it. By doing the time trial start and getting people out there made it possible to get all or most of the athletes off the bike course in the alloted time. I think just having Pizza at the finish was weak but I'm wondering if the lack of participants drove some budget cuts. Having another race the same day only an hour away did not help. That race was actually cancelled altogether. No race pics either, must have been another budget cut. I like the course, the run through the campground is very spectator friendly, I'll be back in 3 weeks for the 70.3 so this was a nice preview.

  • Comments: Well run race by a very experience RD. Not a lot of frills, cheap T-shirts and a cheap short bike bottle in packet. I would have rather had one nice shirt and no bike bottle. Pizza only at the end of the race, could have offered a little more choices. The right call was made as to cancelling the swim and starting the race when we did.

  • Comments: Well. I have some complaints. The weather wasn't their fault, so that's not my beef. They made the right call with the information they had at the time. There was a live band. That was cool, I guess. But there was nothing else at the end -- they handed you your medal, a bottle of water, and you could grab some greasy takeout pizza if you wanted. That was it. No massage. No fruit. Nothing but water to drink. No race pictures, evidently. The race directors are conveniently not answering that question on the Facebook page. That was disappointing because I was there alone, so no pictures of me. On second thought, maybe that's a good thing. I was a sweaty, greasy, salty, dirty mess. (My hair was stiff from all of the salt I sweat out of my body.) Oh, and don't forget that I peed on myself. Twice. Just for good measure. Okay. No pictures. Thank goodness.

  • Comments: Good race and good, experienced people that organize and put this thing together. It always sucks when the swim or race gets canceled. There can always be second guessing on whether it was the correct call or not, especially with the benefit of hindsight, but that shouldn't impact the evaluation of the overall race. It was well run. It is too bad that this race and the Kansas City Triathlon had to cannibalize itself this year with races on the same weekend.

  • Comments: Ended up being a well run race by the RD. HE caught alot of grief from the lack of communication, but he pulled it off. Looking forard to healing up the next 3 weeks and redeeming myself at KS 70.3.

  • Comments: It's become a KC Triathlon tradition: communication prior to race, poor; execution on race day, excellent. As I was walking around barefoot in the grass pre-race, eyes on the ground looking for things I didn't want to step on, I noticed that even the grass was freshly raked/vacuumed/something I don't know how you get grass that clean, there was NOTHING in the grass except clean dirt and blades of grass, talk about attention to detail. I've bought the VIP every year I've raced, in the past it was a good value, shoes, sunglasses, personal masseusse and bike mechanic, but now it is little more than a parking pass, still worth getting for me so the family will come out and watch and not have to trek 2 miles for a diaper change or the 3rd set of dry clothes, good food in a nice shady tent goes a long way. All in all a well organized and growing race, I'll be back next year.

  • Comments: I don't get into the post race stuff much so that's not a big deal. Nice medals, standard shirt, but no beer glass this year? great race, really fun course, Ironband was pretty bad a$$ to have on course, lots of people and volunteers were great. I'll se signed up again when it opens.

  • Comments: I don't ask for much in my races, just a well run event come race day and that's exactly what I got. I enjoyed the bike and run courses, and despite the increased field size I don't think there were any overcrowding issues. There was talk about a special t-shirt design, but I got the impression that there was a problem getting those in and the ones we got were a quick fix. Anywho, I don't exactly sign up for races for the swag so it didn't bother me.

  • Comments: I was a little discouraged checking in on Saturday. Looked to be a boring venue with very little "Expo" type feel. Not much going on. You could leave your bike in transition the night before, but many people were walking in and out of transition with bikes and weren't even checked. Hopefully everybody was honest and didn't "upgrade" their ride. Race day itself though was pretty good. Good atmosphere and post race refreshments. I would do this race again.

  • Comments: Qualified for Hy-Vee US 5150 Champion ships in September? Guess getting older has it's benefits, because my time really didn't justify the reward. Race event was to disorganized as far as communication from race organizers tomparticipants goes, otherwise a very well run race!
