Swim
Comments: Felt good on the way out, but got off course at the first turn and struggled with siting the rest of the way. I think my form fell apart a little (my stroke was uneven). What would you do differently?: Need to continue to work on my siting and building my stroke rate. Transition 1
Comments: Took too long getting the sand off my feet. What would you do differently?: Have towel ready for cleaning feet. Bike
Comments: Tried to not push it too much on the ride out. Felt like I rode within myself. On the way back I was fighting the wind a lot more than I expected. My speed dropped to 15-16mph after averaging around 20mph on the way out. What would you do differently?: Continue to work on leg strength, bike position, and buy a new bike. Slower than last year and it was windier last year. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition. What would you do differently?: Should have grabbed some nutrition for the run. Run
Comments: I knew this would be a struggle with the ITBS issues. I was hoping to get a 10:00/mile average, but I just didn't have it in me. I felt alright except for the knee. What would you do differently?: I need to heal up and get back at it next year. Post race
Warm down: Ate some salt and vinegar potato chips and drank some more water. I tried to catch up with the other racers. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fitness level and ITBS issue. Event comments: I probably shouldn't have tried to race with the ITBS issue, but I thought I could still get in a decent swim and bike. Since those two also failed to pan out, I am disappointed in my performance. Overall, still only 10 minutes slower than last year and still 10 minutes faster than 2010. Arrived early to set up transition and tried to relax. Sipped a Monster drink and visited with racers I knew.
Went down to the lake and got into the water without the wetsuit and decided to swim san-wetsuit.
