Swim
Comments: I was very pleased. I was planning on 40 minutes and I got it. What would you do differently?: Perhaps calm down at the start, but it didn't seem to do harm, so I'm ok with a few minutes of worry. Transition 1
Comments: Because of the giant hill, which I opted to walk up rather than run and because this was my first transition with a wetsuit, I didn't rush. I also made my only porta-potty stop during the race. What would you do differently?: I need a routine--I wasted time going back and forth between helmet and gloves and shoes, etc. I was inefficient. Bike
Comments: I took a Gatorade hand-up and ate 2.5 Powerbars. It kept me going. What would you do differently?: I made the right choices for the day. I picked up my bottle and I stopped once to ask a photographer to call assistance for another cyclist with a broken pedal. I went easier than I could have. But I was right to do so today. Transition 2
Comments: This went quicker. More smoothly. What would you do differently?: NOT put on someone else's race belt and then have to take it off and put mine on! Run
Comments: I managed. And though I wasn't pleased with my speed, I was quite pleased with my persistence. Met a fellow BT-er and we slapped hands and encouraged each other when we crossed paths at the turnarounds. That helped! What would you do differently?: I'm pretty sure my hydration and nutrition were off for the run, but I don't know how to fix that. I had one gel. I didn't feel like eating any of the pretzels or bananas they offered and I was convinced another gel would make me thirstier, but I didn't want to drink any more than I already was, so I made do with flat Coke, cold water, and my Gatorade. It got me through, but wasn't optimal. Post race
Warm down: I walked for a little way, then sat down by the med tent with a bag of ice on my knees. What limited your ability to perform faster: The run was my longest of the year (longest prior was 11.5 and that was a standalone, not a brick). Sleep patterns were difficult/disturbed for the past couple weeks. Stress. Event comments: The atmosphere and activities were a major reason I chose this race in the first place and I wasn't disappointed. Goody bag was great, easily-spotted volunteers all over the place, pumpkin man sculptures lined the finish chute, Pumpkinhead Ale freebie at the end, good harvest dinner. I was pleased. I'd like to go back at some point and improve my time :) Last updated: 2011-12-30 12:00 AM

This was a difficult one for me. My parents arrived the day before and meeting them while getting ready... Well, I forgot my floor pump and sunscreen. I was a little later than I intended and barely had time to pick up my timing chip, stop at the porta-potty, get marked and set up transition before I needed to put on my wetsuit and get down to the water.
I intended to swim, but as I was wading in, they were calling all athletes to exit the water. I swam about 2 strokes. I bounced a few times, swung my arms a few times and decided I would just start my swim easy.
