Comments: My run time was good. I was happy with the results. I didn't want to burn out too much I probably could have pushed it to a 4:30 pace but I didn't want to blow up like my last race so I was a bit conservative. What would you do differently?: Push a tad harder...maybe a 4:35-4:40 pace. I was happy with my time ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Struggled a little bit clipping on my right foot. I have a spacer in-between my cleat and shoe and it's causing clipping issues. What would you do differently?: Run faster out of transition and show up earlier to get a better spot! ![]() Bike
Comments: I felt good overall on the bike. I felt relaxed and calm. I was very scared of hitting the wall again so I figured if I could stay in the 30-31km average range (my comfort zone)I wouldn't cramp up like I did at the last race. Everytime I felt something in my calves I got scared and relaxed so I didn't push too hard. This caused me to go under 30 km/hr. The last 7 km's i said F-it and took off. I averaged around 35-36 the last 7 km's. What would you do differently?: Push a bit harder. Not to the point of mashing the pedals but definitely harder than I did today. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Transition felt good. Got the cheers from the wifey and son and had a burst of energy. Took off like a bat out of hell when leaving the transition area. What would you do differently?: SLOW DOWN! I got too excited and my breathing got all out of whack. ![]() Run
Comments: I felt the burn in my legs the first 2-3 km's. They felt like bricks and didn't want to move. I always have trouble with the second run dealing with cramps. My heart rate and breathing is fine but my legs just done want to keep up. I felt cramps in the first couple km's in my quads and I took a salt tab (for the first time) and felt instant relief. I drank water and gatorade at every aid station to relax myself and keep chugging along. My time is not fast by any means but I was happy with what I did. Any faster and my quads would start to burn. I was able to pick it up in the last 2 km's due to the adrenaline of almost finishing. What would you do differently?: Brick train more. I have to get used to biking then running. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Met with other members of Cambridge Multisport Club and then saw my wife and son. Got food (subway!) and sat down and ate. Saw some other people and knew and chatted about the race day. Grabbed my gear and made the trek home for father's day lunch! What limited your ability to perform faster: Cramps. I'm still experimenting with how to avoid or deal with them. Salt tabs definitely helped and I'll be taking them sooner rather than later. Event comments: The only part of the race that i hated were the roads! I like Trisport Canada raced as they have lots of participants, lots of volunteers and very well organized. This was the site of my first race last year (first race was Guelph Lakes II) and I was determined to do better even though it was a longer distance. I am happy that I did do better and I will be back again at Guelph Lakes II to beat last years time! I've been doing endurance training/racing for less than a year and i'm happy that my results are showing. I'm SLOWLY getting better but i'm noticing an improvment and thats good motivation for me. Woke up around 6 to get ready (race was only 30 minutes away). Tried to make myself a breakfast and realized we had no groceries! On Saturday we had my son's b-day party and didn't do our regular groceries. Had a banana and soy milk to hold me over.
Stopped at Tim Horton's and grabbed myself a bagel.
Got ready setup transition and was good to go. Met with fellow Cambridge Multisport Club members and wished them all a good race.
Watched the triathlese take off and went to the starting line
Chased my son around. It's like a marathon in itself!
