Swim
Comments: Was really shooting for 40min here, but didn't happen. Was still 2:29 faster than last year. Felt I did great at navigation, drafting and getting around the log jams at the buoys. What would you do differently?: Couldn't really 2nd guess anything here. Felt I had a good swim. Transition 1
Comments: We didn't get our transition times, so I figured out my total time and split them. My total transition time was 3:18!!!!! For me, this is smokin'!! Considering last year, my transitions were 3:11 and 3:03, so that's cutting them in half, practically. I practiced them in the motel Sat. nite! So I'm calling this transition 1:32 faster than last year... What would you do differently?: Nothing!!! Bike
Comments: Felt like a good ride. Really no issues. Maybe, could've drank a tad bit more. Things I learned in nutrition seemed to make a big difference in how I felt. Started cramping a bit around the 43 mile mark. Lost a bottle of Ultra hitting a bump right at Mill and Rio, so I had to grab a bottle of Ironman Perform at one of the aid stations. Wasn't too big of a deal...4:44 faster than last year. What would you do differently?: Not much, was somewhat pleased with my bike. Hills didn't seem near as a challenge as they were last year. All the rez rides seemed to have payed dividends, physically and mentally. Transition 2
Comments: Smoked it! Was in and out! Was 1:14 faster than last year... What would you do differently?: Nothing! Run
Comments: Man, this was a tough run, on the 2nd loop..Felt I did good mentally. Was fighting some cramps on and off the whole 2nd loop.It was affecting my pace. My 1st loop was right at an hour and my 2nd loop was 1:09. Either way, I was pushing through and NEVER felt like I was getting punched in the mouth hard enough to walk. Never had to talk myself out of stopping or anything. I did tell myself when I got to mile 10, this is where the wheels came off at Marquee and that just ain't happenin' today!!!!! My run was 3:52 faster than last year. Was really wanting my run closer to 2hrs but it just wasn't to be. 3:52 faster than last year. What would you do differently?: I can't 2nd guess anything, probably because I always refuse to do that!! A race is what it is, making the best decisions at the time you can make according to how you feel. Post race
Warm down: Ate about 400 hundred oranges, a couple of waters, and a couple of Ironman Performs while I was mentally coming back down at the finish line. Congratulating as many finishers as I could, while I was wobbling around.1st time I ever felt that way after a race. I really felt like I hit it as hard as I could... Event comments: Really had a great time at this race. I guess the only thing I would do differently, after I pondered it the last couple of days, is, doing those 2 sprints last month kinda derailed my momentum I had built up in my training. I was still getting faster coming into this race and enjoyed both races last month, but just never felt I "got my groove" completely back in my training, mentally and emotionally, and that had never happened to me before. Race day, I was completely bouncing off the walls and was ready to bite nails in half. Was very happy to FINALLY get to the sub-6 mark!!!(This is my 4th 1/2) Especially after Marquee in April! This was a PR by 10:28!!! And.....14:03 faster than last year! Last updated: 2012-01-08 12:00 AM

Stayed in a hotel up on University so everyone could sleep in. Got up and ate 2 Clif bars, an orange, and a banana. Started on a bottle of Ultra about 5:00am. Race wave started at 6:40am.
Not much, was a deep water start.
