Swim
Comments: It was WAY too hot for a wetsuit -- I almost didn't wear one and if EastFork is hot, will try to go without next time. I didn't get especially tired this time around, but just felt slow. Turns out I was. I wonder if the heat of the day had anything to do with my energy level. What would you do differently?: Not sure -- try to go without my wetsuit. Transition 1
Comments: If I could have placed an exclamation point after "helmet on, suit off at the same time" there'd be three. What's the trick to getting your wetsuit off? I came short of sitting down and yanking like I did when I was 6 and couldn't get out of a wet pair of pants. Now there's a video opportunity -- filming each of us in transition dancing our way out of our wetsuits... What would you do differently?: Try to go without my wetsuit next time. Bike
Comments: Lots of 90 degree turns for the first 2 miles through town -- traffic, poor road conditions really slowed the course. Once out of town, it just became hilly -- stair steps to one really good incline, then one really good decline, then the course repeated. Stopped to help another racer who had a flat 1/2 way through the course, but she didn't know how to change her tire and I didn't want to risk getting disqualified, so I told her that I'd notify a police officer -- it was really hot and I don't think she was carrying water. What would you do differently?: Nothing -- it was a good run for me. Transition 2
Comments: I don't try to get out of my shoes while on the bike -- maybe next year. The transition area was through grass and so we were required to walk about 100 yards to a paved area -- slowed the course. What would you do differently?: Nothing really Run
Comments: ONLY ONE WATER STOP -- it was 95 degrees -- a water stop each mile would have been better. Light on the volunteers this race (no body marking -- lack of volunteers). Last year, townsfolk showed up and cheered on the racers -- narry a soul this year. In town, a car had chosen to drive down the run course -- I stopped him and moved the cones so that he could get off the course. Again -- no volunteers to help at most of the segments. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Watermellon -- my favorite part of the post race. Its the only thing I eat and so really does the job. Then I headed for the lake and took a short swim to try to get my body temp down -- I overheated to the point that I got goosebumps/chills/started shaking. What limited your ability to perform faster: It was just a really hot day and I'm still a newbee. Event comments: Boy, was it hot. The swim seemed like it was uphill all the way... how does that work? Still, I fell stronger with every race and love seeing the same faces each time. Bob's mojo worked -- I left with hardware -- with a blue ribbon. Last updated: 2006-05-06 12:00 AM
